Typical teenage problems, mysterious murders, and even a forbidden love with a vampire.

The number of movies and TV series about school and university is almost infinite. And the creators try not to limit themselves in genres. A most recent hit was Maxton Hall — about how the most handsome and richest guy in the school is forced to spend time with a girl from an ordinary family.

If you've been looking for a Maxton Hall-style show, you'll definitely like these ten projects you can watch on Netflix.

1. Heartstopper, 2022-...

Charlie Spring, an awkward, curly-haired high school student, feels like an outcast at school. Charlie was recently outed, so his classmates pick on him for no reason at all. One fine day, Charlie meets Nick Nelson, a handsome athlete with a kind heart, and falls in love with him. But Charlie doesn't know how to tell Nick about his feelings without destroying the most important thing: their warm, heartfelt friendship.

As often happens with Netflix, the main hit of the streaming is not a big-budget, hyped up project, but something modest and practically unknown. Such was the case with the high school rom-com Heartstopper — an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name.

2. Heartbreak High, 2022-2025

The main characters, Amerie and Harper, choose an unusual path — instead of having their own personal lives, they become observers of the lives of their peers. On the school wall, they create a fascinating "map" that explains even the most intimate relationships of their classmates.

But as is often the case in real life, such a find could not go unnoticed. Principal Stacy Woods learns of the map and begins a serious investigation.

Heartbreak High is a reboot of the 1994 Australian cult series that highlights the importance of early conversations with teens about sex.

3. Get Even, 2020

Life in an elite English private school is different from ordinary life. But there are still bullies who humiliate weaker classmates. The four teenage girls decide to put a stop to it.

They form their own secret society to expose those who hurt others. For anyone who acts unfairly, they come up with a cruel prank. The girls are all very different, and they could not find anything in common if it were not for their main goal in life — justice for all.

4. I Am Not Okay With This, 2020

The End Of The F***ing World director Jonathan Entwistle's adaptation of Charles Forsman's graphic novel tells the story of a sixteen-year-old girl named Sydney who, in addition to the obvious problems of adolescence, is trying to cope with newly acquired superpowers — in moments of intense anger or fear, she can, without much effort, knock down an entire tree or throw a bowling ball at someone.

Of course, Sydney doesn't tell anyone about her abilities — her relationships with her loved ones are already too far from ideal.

For fans of '80s pop culture, the show is a treasure trove of Easter eggs and references, from the iconic Carrie movie to classic comic books and video games.

5. Never Have I Ever, 2020-2023

Never Have I Ever is the funniest and most light-hearted series on this entire list. This is the story of a girl named Devi who spent a whole year in a wheelchair — the girl was temporarily paralyzed due to the death of her father. Now Devi wants to make up for lost time and decides to lose her virginity as soon as possible.

To carry out her plan, Devi enlists the help of schoolboy hunk Paxton, but as usual, not everything goes according to plan. The format of the series is unconventional: each episode is about something the main character has never done in her life.

6. First Kill, 2022

High school student Juliette falls in love at first sight with new girl Calliope. At the party, the girls kiss, but the encounter does not end well: Juliette bites her partner, and Calliope responds by plunging a dagger into the heart of the quiet girl with sharp teeth.

The first belongs to an ancient and powerful family of pureblood vampires, the second to monster hunters. Juliette does not die, and Calliope feels a strong connection to the vampire after being bitten. Thus begins a tale of forbidden love, spiced with blood, silver knives, and adventure.

7. Trinkets, 2019-2020

Trinkets is dedicated to the forced relationship of schoolgirls that eventually develops into a true friendship. Three different girls meet at a Shoplifters Anonymous meeting: an introvert, an honor student, and the most popular girl in school.

During classes and breaks, they pretend not to know each other, but gradually get closer and become friends. Trinkets lasted only two seasons — and this is partly because its first season didn’t get the attention it deserved, but those who did not quit the series fell in love with its second and final season.

8. My Life with the Walter Boys, 2023-...

The main character is a girl named Jackie. She lost her parents at a young age and was sent to Colorado to live with a foster family. This family has their own children — seven sons and one daughter.

After experiencing stress, the girl finds herself in an unfamiliar environment. Previously, she lived in a big city, and now she has a quiet and measured life in a village, a new school and new friends. To her new acquaintances, the girl seems to have settled into paradise — after all, she gets so much male attention. But Jackie doesn't know which brother to choose.

9. Ginny & Georgia, 2021-...

Free-spirited Georgia and her two children — teenage Ginny and quiet grade-schooler Austin — move to an idyllic, affluent Massachusetts suburb for a fresh start. The daughter is not happy about the next move, as her mother has a habit of moving every time something bad happens.

In a new town, Ginny will have to make friends, deal with social pressures, survive her first relationship, and deal with prejudiced teachers. Georgia, on the other hand, will have to deal with problems from the past and try to fit into a utopian place where you have to be a perfect mother.

10. One of Us Is Lying, 2021-2022

One of Us Is Lying is based on one of the most popular teen novels of recent years. The original source of the same name is a cross between The Breakfast Club and an intriguing thriller: five students (a smart girl, an athlete, a beauty, a bully and an outcast) come to serve their punishment after school, but one of them, an outcast, dies.

The boy was the creator of a local rumor-sharing application, and he was just about to publish an exposé on each of the four students, so all of them are suspects.
