The best way to get ready for the new album is to watch some of JT's most striking performances.

Justin Timberlake has done what many have failed to do – first become a popular singer, and then reveal himself to fans from a different side as an actor. And he has done it just as confidently and successfully, working with such iconic directors as Woody Allen and the Coen brothers.

In honor of the upcoming release of the singer's long-awaited new album, Everything I Thought It Was, we recall ten of his most impressive roles.

10. Edison, 2005

The role of journalist Joshua Pollack, who tries to uncover a corruption conspiracy in the ranks of the Special Forces, was the first in the career of the aspiring actor, where he starred with such big stars as Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey. Their characters are forced to confront a corrupt law enforcement system and its villains, who are willing to take the most drastic measures to keep themselves out of jail.

Edison is a rather controversial movie that was released directly on DVD. However, despite the rather low critical reception, Edison is a worthy movie, especially for the actor's career start.

9. Wonder Wheel, 2017

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 43%

In Woody Allen's drama, Justin Timberlake played lifeguard Mickey. The role is partly ironic – throughout the movie, Justin walks around with a fake tan and exquisitely styled hair.

But that does not make the movie any less heartbreaking. Along with Timberlake, Kate Winslet starred in the movie as the desperate housewife Ginny – one of her best roles.

The movie is set in the mid-1950s. Ginny lives in Coney Island with her husband Humpty. Bored, Ginny falls in love with Mickey, a young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright. Suddenly, Humpty's daughter returns home and also falls in love with him.

8. In Time, 2011

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 51%

Fantastic action movie with Amanda Seyfried as Justin's co-star. And although the movie did not receive rave reviews from critics, this did not stop the viewers from enjoying a rather original story about immortality.

The events of the film tell of a time when humanity has finally achieved what everyone has dreamed of since the beginning of time: eternal youth has become possible, but time is now a renewable resource, as well as the most valuable currency that everyone fights for.

The criminals come to the attention of FBI agents who dream of putting them behind bars.

All of the characters in the movie have real-life prototypes. In reality, the prototype of Justin's Frankie, 20-year-old Jesse Rugge, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after seven years. He was paroled in July 2013 and released in October of the same year.

Justin Timberlake's most recent acting work to date, in which he starred alongside Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone. The actor played real estate agent Will, whose girlfriend is killed under mysterious circumstances.

Detective Tom Nichols takes over the investigation. The main suspects include Will himself, as well as the ex-husband of the deceased and a mysterious stalker who has been watching the couple for a long time.

For the first time in years, Timberlake plays a complex and controversial character. With Benicio Del Toro, they formed a wonderful screen duo, united by a common tragedy.

3. Inside Llewyn Davis, 2013

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 74%

The Coen brothers' musical drama is one of the most successful projects in Timberlake's filmography. The film was nominated in two Oscar categories and received three Golden Globe nominations.

The film starred Oscar Isaac as Llewyn Davis, a former sailor who returns to New York to pursue a failed career as a folk singer. He used to sing in a duet, but his friend committed suicide. Justin played Llewyn's friend who tries to help the dreamer.

In the 2010s, Justin took a break from his music career to focus on acting, and it paid off – the actor was invited by David Fincher to star in The Social Network, a drama about the creation of Facebook.

Timberlake played businessman Sean Parker, who was the first to recognize the multi-billion dollar potential of the online platform. It is Parker who gives birth to Mark Zuckerberg's ambition – Zuckerberg may have once been a sexist college student with some clever Internet skills, but it is Parker who gives him real power.

1. Palmer, 2021

Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 88%

One of the best dramatic roles of Justin’s acting career. Timberlake played former high school football star Eddie Palmer, who went from local hero to prison inmate after serving twelve years. He returns to his hometown to start life over, but is confronted by the ghosts of the past and unexpectedly becomes the mentor of an orphaned boy.

Eddie does not immediately get used to the idea that he is now responsible for the child, but gradually the two grow closer and Eddie sees in the child a chance to atone for his mistakes. The movie received high ratings and allowed Justin to return to serious cinema after a significant break in his acting career.
