5 Juicy Fan Theories About ‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 That Might Just Be True

HBO’s historical drama is yet to continue with at least one more instalment, so here’s what The Gilded Age’s fans think will happen in the upcoming fourth season.
The whole drama is now over for The Gilded Age now that season 3 wrapped last week, but hopefully it won’t be too long before the next instalment unveiled what’s in store for the 1880s New York high society.
So far, many things remain uncertain: Bertha and George’s marriage, Peggy’s future with Dr. Kirkland and whether Gladys will be doing fine now that she’s having a baby.
As many more mysteries are yet to be uncovered, The Gilded Age’s fans have already armed themselves with lots of theories about what the fourth season will be like — we gather the best ones here.
Will George Go Bankrupt?
It certainly feels like Morgan Spector’s character is getting into huge personal crisis, but that might be added up to his possible big trouble at work too.
In the third season, George invested most of his fortune into new programs that would develop railroads in the near future, so fans think this idea will likely prove itself a failure — but, probably, not without a silver lining.
“Due to the banking panic, George Russell will go bankrupt or be on the verge of bankruptcy. He will be saved from ruin by Larry’s money, Jack will invest part of his clock money, and Oscar will also make an investment. Or he will go bankrupt and use their money to start from the scratch”, Redditor YouStas91 suggested in a thread.
Is the Russells’ Possible Divorce Just George’s Tricky Scheme?
The Gilded Age’s leading couple has had a ton of problems in the latest season, but that wouldn’t be reason to break Bertha and George up — which is why some think the latter would be planning to make it look like a breakup just to keep Bertha safe.
“I have a sneaking suspicion that George left Bertha at the end of S3 not because he was still upset/didn’t love her, but because he and possibly also Larry learned from their PI that his attempted murder and hit man came from Morenci, instead of being Clay. With his killer still at large, his presence puts Bertha and the entire family in danger until they are brought to justice”, Sensitive_Fortune515 wrote in a different thread.
Can Oscar Just Get Another Lover Instead?
After John Adams’ untimely death, it seemed like there was no other way for Oscar but to open up about his sexuality just to not suffer anymore, but some of the show’s fans think there can be a better option for the character than the arranged marriage with one of his female friends.
“With the lavender marriage looking very likely for Oscar next season, I have a feeling that Mr. Merrick may turn into Oscar's new love interest. What if Mr. Merrick hides his true self behind the flirty exterior that he presents to the matrons of society. There is also the matter of his failed engagement and he never seemed to try again. Curious”, Ok_Tomatillo2193 commented.
Will Larry and Marian Break Up Again?
Though the couple’s first relationship crisis might be already behind, there’s more for Marian to overcome now that she’ll be preparing to marry Bertha Russell’s son.
As many expect now, Bertha’s thoughts about Marian not being a fit for her son will likely drive her to scheme against the latter just ahead of the wedding.
“Bertha will plot something and Larry will fall for it making Marian believe that he doesn’t love her or isn’t good enough for him. Larry will also believe that Marian doesn’t love him back, she hasn’t said it yet and this might be the reason why he falls for Bertha’s plans”, Victoria-c98 revealed.
Is Turner a Widow on Purpose?
Now that fans are also speculating about Turner’s possible marriage with Oscar just for their own financial good, some are having doubts about Mr. Winterton’s tragic death and whether Turned was somehow involved in it.
“Am I the only one who has suspicions about the cause of death of Mr Winterton? I would not be surprised if Mrs Winterton "helped" him out of this world. A little poison comes to mind”, Budget_Dimension9929 wrote in a thread.
