10 ‘Superman’ Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed

James Gunn’s new take on Superman’s story has paid homage to DC”s comic book in so many ways — here we recollect some of the most exciting (and probably unnoticed ones).
It’s just a beginning for James Gunn’s Superman in the box office, though it’s safe to say the movie might end up among the highest-grossing flicks of this year quite soon.
Released worldwide on July 11, Superman earned more than $200 million during the opening weekend, making millions of fans flood theatres across the world to see whether DC’s new superhero movie adapted the original comic book with all tiniest details possible.
For that to grasp, however, you likely need to be a long-standing diehard fan, but no worries — here are some of Superman’s best Easter eggs you might have not noticed while watching.
Will Reeve’s Cameo
In the movie, a reporter on the scene is portrayed by Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve who played the superhero in 1987’s Superman and its three sequels.
Milly Alcock’s DCU Debut
James Gunn’s movie also features House of the Dragon’s star Milly Alcock who, ironically, is reading the Supergirl comic book in the short scene.
Next year, the actress is set to debut as Supergirl in the DCU’s movie of the same name.
Krypto’s Situation Is Cleared
The movie also implies that Superman is taking care of Krypto the Super Dog temporarily, making yet another reference to Milly Alcock’s Supergirl who is the real owner of the puppy.
Batman Is Also Somewhere Close
During citizens’ evacuation from Metropolis, there’s a highway sign that can be seen, indicating where those who want to reach Gotham City should go.
As DC comics have repeatedly hinted, Superman’s Metropolis and Batman’s Gotham City are in fact close enough to each other.
Walter Cronkite Mention
In the movie, Clark jokingly calls Lois Lane “Cronkite”, making a reference to Walter Cronkite, an American broadcast journalist who is widely known as “the most trusted man in America”.
John Cena’s Cameo as Peacemaker
The actor shows up as Peacemaker at the most critical moment in Superman’s life when everyone starts questioning his real intentions.
In the scene, Cena adds a bit of humour to the whole tension, revealing in an interview that Superman does think way too high of himself.
LuthorCorp Nod
Even though the classic name for DC’s company is LexCorp, James Gunn’s Superman makes a subtle nod to Smallville, a 2001 TV series that starred Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor (coincidentally, Rosenbaum is also James Gunn’s good friend).
John Williams’ 1978 Superman Theme
The new take on Superman’s story also pays homage to the unbeatable score written for the 1978 movie by John Williams.
Despite not being used directly, the theme and its motifs are used in different ways.
Big Belly Burger Also Gets a Mention
When it comes to Metropolis, nothing is about McDonald’s or Burger King — it’s Big Belly Burger that rules DC’s world.
In the new movie’s short scene, eagle-eyed fans can notice an ad banner of the famous fast food chain from the original comic book.
Belle Rive Prison
The movie also confirms that Luthor is sent to serve his sentence in Belle Rive prison — the same facility run by Amanda Waller and ARGUS from Suicide Squad.
