Argue about it all you want, but 2001's "Smallville" is still one of the best superhero shows to ever air on American television, as its rewarding mix of small-town drama and the supernatural adventures of young Superman still feels as relevant as it did more than two decades ago.

That said, some aspects of this great show have dated quite a bit since it ended 12 years ago, making the experience of watching it a bit harsh, especially for newer viewers.
