The Denis Villeneuve-directed hit thriller probably inspired Sheridan’s Lioness.

To many viewers, Taylor Sheridan is the creator of Western-y big hits like Yellowstone or Landman, as well as some thrilling stories like Lioness and Tulsa King, but his cinematic legacy goes way beyond the TV industry.

Having started his career path off with some solid acting works, Sheridan quickly turned to writing, giving source material not only for his own future projects, but also for the movies that other prominent filmmakers were set to direct.

Sheridan’s earlier writing pieces would later on echo in his future series of his own, and this becomes crystal clear in Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 thriller movie Sicario which Sheridan actually wrote the script for.

Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario Owes Its Success to Taylor Sheridan

This might come as quite a surprise for some of Sheridan’s fans, but before conquering the audience with Yellowstone he wrote the movie that everyone forgot to thank him for.

With a star-studded cast that includes Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin and others, Sicario follows FBI Special Agent Kate Macer who is tasked with a government-level mission to bring down the leader of a Mexican drug cartel that aims to have a full control over the US-Mexican border.

The movie received universal acclaim, garnering $85 million in the box office and also securing scores of 92% and 85% from critics and viewers respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, with some even calling Sicario one of the best films released in 2015.

Sicario Subtly Predicted Themes Sheridan Will Explore in His Own Shows

Though the Villeneuve-directed movie is packed with way more action and high-level drama, Sicario still dives deep into the same notions as Sheridan’s own series keep exploring ten years later.

The creator’s plot lines are way more profound than just a story of a political fight for power or wealth, trying to find answers to eternal questions of good and evil, the destiny of the poor and the allegedly deserved happiness of the wealthy, the struggle for power and what consequences it might have.

Those who have already seen Sheridan questioning all these matters will definitely find something similar and yet completely new in Sicario too.
