The Johnny Depp-led gothical slasher might be your best option for the scariest night of the year (even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan).

It’s almost time for the spooky season’s most intimidating day (or rather night), which means Halloween fans are about to take out their lengthy lists of horror movies they are eager to revisit or would love to see for the first time ever.

Filled with scents of pumpkin pies and burnt candles, the atmosphere is just right for some movies created by Tim Burton who, mostly credited for making child-friendly horror flicks, still shook the audiences with a couple of pretty scary films back in the day.

Almost two decades after its release, this Tim Burton movie is still hailed as the director’s most intimidating one — partially thanks to the supporting cast that counts with three actors from the Harry Potter film series.

Released back in 2007, the gory musical stars Johnny Depp as the eponymous character seeking vengeance on a judge who unjustly convicted and exiled him to eventually steal his wife.

Apart from Depp, one of the leading roles in Sweeney Todd belongs to Burton’s muse Helena Bonham Carter, famous for portraying Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movies.

Another major figure in the film is the main protagonist, Judge Turpin himself, who is played by Severus Snape’s Alan Rickman, while the judge’s bailiff is none other than Timothy Spall, the actor who starred as Peter Pettigrew in 2004’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as well as 2011’s Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows — Part 1.

In case you haven’t yet had an opportunity to check out one of Tim Burton’s finest movies, you might eventually opt for Sweeney Todd this Halloween night thanks to the film’s witty blend of horror and musical, which Depp, Bonham Carter and Rickman all excel at.

Ever since its premiere, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has been regarded as both one of the best horror films of the decade and one of the best movie musicals in the cinema history, with many critics praising Burton’s dedication to both genres’ elements and the story’s gloomy atmosphere that pairs perfectly with the featured songs.

Eventually, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street even went on to enter the race for three awards at the 2008 Oscars ceremony, winning one for Best Art Direction.
