Best Sci-Fi Horror Might Finally Get a Long-Awaited Sequel, 28 Years Later

Screenwriter Philip Eisner, who worked on Event Horizon, has hinted that the possibility of a sequel is not zero. Here's what the writer said exactly.
Science fiction seeks to transcend our experience. However, it sometimes has its limits, leaving worthy representatives of the genre without sequels.
Before adapting video games, Paul W.S. Anderson tried his hand at original science fiction films. His Event Horizon became a cult sci-fi horror movie, but it remains an artifact of the late '90s.
The Alien franchise, for example, continues to explore the dark space and its inhabitants, but Anderson's film never received a sequel.
'Event Horizon' Writer Teases There's Talk About a Sequel
Dedicated fans of Event Horizon have never lost hope that their beloved story would get a sequel, and it seems that may be happening.
In an interview with Incensepunk Magazine, Event Horizon screenwriter Philip Eisner was asked if he had considered a sequel. He responded with a wink:
“I will say that Paul and I are definitely not talking about that. And that's all I can say.”
Then he continued:
“We're playing around. It's the playing around stage. [...] It's my favorite movie of his [Paul W.S. Anderson], it's my favorite movie of mine, so you know I'd love to reunite with him on it.”
There are definitely talks about the Event Horizon sequel, and where there's a talk, there's a way.
'Event Horizon' Sequel Would Be a Worthy Addition to the Sci-Fi Horror Genre
It would be a worthy attempt to revive the sci-fi horror genre, which is now limited to rare releases. Event Horizon could exist as a prequel, as screenwriters often use this technique to recount previous events and the incident with the first crew.
Although the film industry is currently experiencing a crisis of ideas, with viewers tired of the numerous sequels and remakes, fans of Event Horizon have welcomed the news with enthusiasm. One of the Reddit users wrote:
“I think Event Horizon is one of the few films that genuinely needs a remake. There's so much good stuff in the original, but it just falls short in a few crucial areas.”
Some Fans Are Still Waiting for the Director's Cut of 'Event Horizon'
Another group of fans thinks that a sequel to Event Horizon is unnecessary and that a director's cut of the film would be better. Redditor paradox1920 commented:
“I don't need it. If anything, give me the directors cut should there be any way to find it.”
During the production of Event Horizon, the producers demanded that all too violent scenes be removed from the final cut. Instead of lasting 130 minutes as intended, the final film was only 96 minutes long.
After Event Horizon became a cult classic, Paramount offered the film crew the opportunity to return to work and release a new version of the movie. However, it was too late. The material could not be found – the deleted scenes were lost.
