Coming from actual Game of Thrones creators, it could be quite promising.

Summary:

  • 3 Body Problem, Netflix 's new sci-fi show from the creators of Game of Thrones, isn't unanimously praised
  • Despite that, the show is already eyeing a second season
  • David Benioff and Dan Weiss have a GoT-coded teaser for fans as they try to hype the audience (and the network) for a potential renewal

3 Body Problem could be a fresh and undisputed hit on Netflix, as it has sci-fi, mystery and Game of Thrones creators on board. However, to put it lightly, the show is not exactly enjoying universal success.

With just 77% score from both critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, 3 Body Problem is, of course, dominating Netflix top, but it also weathers accusations of whitewashing and butchering its source material.

However, according to David Benioff and Dan Weiss, 3 Body Problem should be given a second chance — or a second season, to be precise — as it has plenty of jaw-droppers up its sleeve. And when they say jaw-droppers, they mean...

"It’s one [scene] that happens in the second season … things wildly escape and there’s one scene, if we get to it, we’re golden — like when we got to the Red Wedding on Thrones,” Benioff told The Hollywood Reporter.

The first season already had its scene with an "OMG!!!" effect (which we're not going to spoil), but if the D&D duo truly has something like the Red Wedding prepared for 3 Body Problem's second chapter, then the show may actually deserve a second go.

Besides, Benioff mentioned that it's also about the source material for the show. 3 Body Problem is based on Liu Cixin's book Three-Body Problem — the first one in the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy.

According to Benioff, the second book is "far better than the first," while the third one "completely blew" his mind. Which is why, he continues, Netflix should greenlight more chapters for the TV adaptation.

However, given the fact that 3 Body Problem already demands around $20 million per one episode, the show might want to demonstrate better numbers and better ratings if it wants a chance to show its own Red Wedding some time soon.

If you want to see for yourself, try solving the 3 Body Problem by streaming its first season on Netflix.
