The sequel’s nearly ready, but one piece is missing.

Ever since whispers of Gremlins 3 started circulating, it’s been hard for me not to wonder whether the mischievous creatures would ever return. Now, according to actor Zach Galligan, they just might — if one final box gets ticked.

At Comic Con Manchester, Galligan revealed that the script is done. Warner Bros. is ready. The plan is to continue the original story, not reboot it. And yes — the gremlins will be puppets, not pixels.

So what’s the delay? As Galligan put it, "It’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it."

Chris Columbus, writer of the 1984 classic, co-wrote the new script with Carl Ellsworth. He’s long insisted on staying true to the practical charm of the original — no CGI, no glossy remake.

With the success of legacy sequels like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. wants in. But without Spielberg’s green light, the project stays in limbo.

If approved, filming could begin in 2026, with a possible release in 2027. But until then, the mogwai remain on standby.
