Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark received critical acclaim but was overlooked by viewers. However, it now seems to be experiencing a revival thanks to A24.

Kathryn Bigelow, director of the cult films Point Break and Strange Days, is now one of the world's leading filmmakers. Her movie The Hurt Locker won six Oscars, but we are interested in her second film, Near Dark, a vampire horror western released in the '80s.

Near Dark is a quiet masterpiece – a modest film that successfully blends several genres and tells the most heartfelt story of the fall of man in the vampire movie format.

'Near Dark' TV Spinoff Is Reportedly in the Works

According to The InSneider, Near Dark is waiting for a revival – A24 is developing a series based on the film. Presumably, Kathryn Bigelow herself will act as a consultant.

It seems that A24 is expanding its series portfolio – apparently, studio representatives are happy with the production of the Friday the 13th spinoff series titled Crystal Lake and are ready to take on another TV project.

In 2008, Hollywood attempted to remake Near Dark, but Platinum Dunes shut down the project after the release of Twilight.
