Who is Elodie – Nina's mother or OA herself? Unfortunately, we will never know for sure, but we can speculate about this and other mysteries.

In 2019, it was announced that The OA would not be getting a third season – and it was the biggest mistake Netflix has ever made. The OA is a revolutionary sci-fi project that would have definitely gone down in the history of the genre if Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling had been allowed to finish their brainchild.

In the meantime, we recall the most intriguing questions that remained unanswered after two seasons of The OA.

1. Who Is OA?

The name OA is deciphered as “Original Angel,” but there is another interpretation. When Prairie was put back into a coma by Hap, she met Khatun – a spiritual mentor about whom we know almost nothing, except that she controls dimensions.

In Season 2, Nina is revealed to be a medium. OA in Nina's body comes to a performance where a giant octopus named Old Night tells her that she doesn't know herself and has forgotten her true essence.

He decides to send her to the moment when she can see her true face. Then he kills her for thirty-seven seconds, and OA finds herself in the third dimension – where the actress playing her, Brit Marling, is flying on an airplane.

So OA is not Prairie, not Nina, not another “she” from an infinite number of dimensions, but something primordial that can travel between dimensions.

There is a pretty convincing theory that OA is the first person to merge all versions of herself. Fans give the example of a chain, and this best illustrates who OA is – Nina, Brit, and Prairie are links, and OA is the chain made up of them.

2. What Actually Happened in the First Season?

There are several versions of Prairie's story. The first is that the girl went crazy from seven years of imprisonment and just made up this story. The second is that everything really happened as Prairie described it, and she really did jump into another dimension after being wounded, which supports the following theory.

It is that death is just a jump in intertemporal space, and each of our actions creates an infinite number of versions of reality, in each of which we are still us, but our fate is adjusted by our choices.

And the fourth theory: everything that happened to Prairie and her friends is part of a huge project by some important people, or even the military, who want to control the movement between dimensions.

Think about it: How could Hap build such an expensive bunker in the first season? Where would he get the money? What is this company in the second season?

3. Is the Third Dimension Our Reality or Not?

The dimension that Karim sees in the attic window of the house in the second season, and where OA and Hap end up, is closely intertwined with the actual state of affairs in our reality – there, Prairie/Nina is called Brit, like the actress Brit Marling, and Professor Hap is called Jason Isaac, like the actor who plays him.

But the rest of the picture does not add up. The third dimension is disguised as the backstage of the filming of the series The OA, but we see many inconsistencies.

The filming shown to us takes place in London, but in reality The OA was filmed in California and New York, and Jason Isaac is not married to Brit Marling.

4. Who Is Elodie?

In Season 2, Hap is a scientist trying to create an interdimensional map to answer the question: Can you choose which dimension you want to jump to?

He meets a French woman named Elodie who travels between dimensions when she wants, always carrying a set of mini-robots that perform all five movements of a ritual dance. Who Elodie is is a mystery. One theory is that she is Nina's mother, who died in childbirth, but from another dimension, and another theory claims she's the OA from the future.
