Getting a role and signing a contract does not guarantee that the actor will not be replaced on the set.

Even if you are a Hollywood superstar and got into the movie with little or no casting, it is no guarantee of success. Directors have their own vision of the movie and know what result they want to get.

Therefore, if they do not see what they need in an actor, they do not hesitate to replace them with others, even if the shooting has already started and even if we are talking about biggest Hollywood stars.

Natalie Portman, Romeo + Juliet

Natalie Portman started her acting career at a very early age and quickly became a star. In 1996, she was invited to star in Romeo + Juliet, where she was supposed to star with Leonardo DiCaprio.

However, the actor was 8 years older than her: while Leo was then 21 years old, Natalie was only 13.

Due to this age difference, the actress was excluded from the project, and Claire Danes, who was 2 years older, was invited to play the role.

Christian Bale, American Psycho

Sometimes an actor is fired and then rehired. Such situations are extremely rare, but that's exactly what happened on the set of American Psycho.

At the time, almost no one knew Christian Bale, so when Leonardo DiCaprio expressed interest in his role, the producers fired Bale without thinking twice, along with director Mary Harron, who stood up for the actor.

Later, Leo decided to walk away from the project, fearing the movie would ruin his image. Fortunately, Harron and Bale did not hold a grudge and returned to the project.

Ryan Gosling, The Lovely Bones

An ironic and at the same time offensive situation happened on the set of Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. The father of the main character was supposed to be played by Ryan Gosling.

However, the actor's diligence in preparing for the shoot did not end well. Having grown a beard and gained almost 60 pounds, he appeared on the set in a new guise, but Peter Jackson was very surprised by this turn of events.

His vision of the character did not coincide with the idea of Gosling – Jackson believed that he should be slimmer. Therefore, he replaced him with Mark Wahlberg.

Anne Hathaway, Knocked Up

The actress was offered the lead role in Knocked Up, but as soon as the filming began, it became clear that Anne Hathaway would not be able to get along with director Judd Apatow.

Hathaway advised him to change several scenes because she believed that he did not understand women, and then she declared that she would not act in the movie at all until the ending of the movie was changed.

As a result, the lead role went to Katherine Heigl.
