4 Popular Severance Theories That Were Proved Wrong in Season 2 Episode 5

The truth is getting closer and closer.
Episode 5 of the second season of Severance may seem like a pit stop compared to the action-packed fourth episode. However, if you take a closer look, you will see that we have learned a lot, and thanks to that, we can now cut out some of the popular theories – and that brings us closer to the truth.
1. Irving Is Not Reintegrated
The fact that Irving found data on other severed Lumon employees at his home in the first season finale led many fans to believe that Irv had been reintegrated.
However, the phone booth scene in Episode 5 proved that this was definitely not the case. Irving talks to a mysterious person and says, "I think they knew what my innie was up to." Considering that the man does not know the exact reason for his dismissal, it is clear that he has not been reintegrated.
2. The Outdoor Retreat Was Not a Simulation
After the fourth episode was released, many viewers decided that the workers' trip was actually a simulation, and Mark and his colleagues never left the severed floor. This was indicated by a strange TV that worked without any wires and creepy clones of all four main characters.
Moreover, many believed that Lumon's management would not take such a risk – sending rebellious workers outside the office walls.
However, during the performance review, Milchick said that the Outdoor Retreat was his personal initiative – he organized the trip himself and actually took the workers to the forest.
3. Miss Huang Is Not Severed
The most mysterious character of the second season is Miss Huang, a child who took Milchick's place after his promotion. Her presence on the severed floor raised another moral question – is Lumon performing the procedure on children? Some fans even believed that she was the first severed worker ever.
Miss Huang's comment in the fifth episode that innies are less than human suggests that the girl herself is not severed. Moreover, she clearly shares Helena's view – innies are not individuals, but almost animals.
Most likely, Miss Huang is a student at the Myrtle Eagan School For Girls, an educational institution where Harmony Cobel also studied. Perhaps they train non-severed workers who are completely loyal to Lumon.
4. Mark Is Reghabi's Second Reintegrated Employee
It is Petey's disappearance and reintegration that sets off a chain of irreversible events. The characters begin to suspect Lumon of hiding information, stop tolerating corporate violence, and declare war on their superiors.
Reintegrated workers are a unique phenomenon for the series, so it is not surprising that viewers tried to find hints that one of the characters had undergone the same procedure as Petey.
One such clue was Reghabi's remark to Mark that she had gotten better at the procedure, which could be interpreted as the woman having performed another successful operation.
However, the dialogue between Mark and Reghabi in the fifth episode disproves this theory – Mark tells the woman that she had only performed reintegration once before him, which she does not deny.
