Taylor Sheridan isn’t the only one who is good at risky spy stories.

One of Paramount+’s latest hits, a spy thriller show Lioness is currently taking some time off the screen before a potential return with another season, but those fans who want to make the long wait easier actually have a lot of other options to check out.

Created by Western master Taylor Sheridan, Lioness is a high-level drama full of entangled stories of risky missions, spy controversy and betrayal, which is a fuelling mixture that has been long drawing millions viewers to their screens even before Sheridan’s series came around.

With that in mind, Lioness’ fans can add some yet undiscovered spy items to their watchlist while waiting for the hit show’s next season.

Based on Matthew Quirk’s book of the same name, The Night Agent has recently dropped its second season on Netflix and is likely to have an even brighter future ahead.

The everyday boredom at the workplace soon vanishes when an unexpected call brings in a shocking government conspiracy and a potentially dangerous outcome of the events that will follow.

Homeland (2011 — 2020)

The Claire Danes-led mystery thriller is probably the best finding for those who are desperate to see something pretty similar to Lioness.

Homeland follows CIA officer Carrie Mathison as she becomes more and more confident that the U.S. Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, held captive for years, has now changed sides and might be a big danger that the government has to deal with.

Both Homeland and Lioness focus on strong female leads who are confronted by personal issues while trying to do their job right.

Based on Tom Clancy’s fictional character’s story, Jack Ryan follows John Krasinski ’s CIA analyst of the same name as he navigates through espionage controversies and has to deal with some serious threats that might result in terrorist attacks.

The show is likely to bring some nostalgia for Lioness’ fans as Michael Kelly, who portrays senior CIA supervisor Byron Westfield in Lioness, also stars in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as Mike November.

The BBC adaptation of Luke Jennings’ novel series Villanelle, Killing Eve remains one of the highest-rated spy thriller shows of the last decade.

The plot revolves around MI5 analyst Eve Polastri who is tasked with a mission to track down Villanelle, an international assassin who has so far been elusive going by different names and nationalities every single time.

With every new failed attempt to catch Villanelle, Eve realises that she’s actually more willing to get to know her target better rather than put her in jail.

The Little Drummer Girl (2018)

Starring Florence Pugh, the miniseries follows Charlie, an aspiring actress who gets a weird acting job as she’s hired by an intelligence officer to go undercover into a terrorist group, taking on a new identity.

The Little Drummer Girl and Lioness draw parallels on a more psychological level, both showing the other side of the spy’s work and its own challenges and struggles. Just like Sheridan’s hit show, The Little Drummer Girl is also a story about professional loyalty and morality that sometimes can have its toll on the characters’ personal life.
