5 Amanda Seyfried Movies & TV Series That Prove She Deserves an Oscar Nomination
From a revealing drama about Elizabeth Holmes to a biopic about a legendary screenwriter.
Over her nearly twenty-five-year career, Amanda Seyfried has evolved from teen comedies to complex dramas. Although she has been nominated for an Oscar, she has yet to win the coveted statuette – and that seems unfair.
We've recalled five movies and TV series that prove Amanda Seyfried definitely deserves an Oscar.
1. 'The Testament of Ann Lee', 2025
IMDb Score: 7.0/10

The Testament of Ann Lee is based on the life of a real historical figure. Ann Lee, an 18th-century Quaker woman from Manchester, turns to religion for solace as her children die one after another. When Quakers are persecuted, she is imprisoned and has a revelation.
She begins to believe that she is the female incarnation of Christ. Lee and a group of like-minded individuals then travel from England to the New World, where they found their own religious movement.
Ann Lee is one of Seyfried's finest performances. The actress conveys despair, obsession, and religious ecstasy with equal power. Many predicted an Oscar nomination for Seyfried, but the Academy ignored The Testament of Ann Lee.
2. 'The Dropout', 2022
IMDb Score: 7.5/10

The series shows an incredible rise and fall of Theranos, a company developing innovative blood testing equipment. The startup promised to release a compact analyzer that could conduct complex tests using just a single drop of blood.
Theranos was founded by entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes. Although the company attracted investment, it never achieved success because the technology simply didn't work.
Amanda Seyfried undergoes a remarkable transformation in the series. To resemble Holmes, the actress changed her gait, voice, and facial expressions. Many colleagues later asked her if she wore a false chin on set.
3. 'Letters to Juliet', 2010
IMDb Score: 6.5/10

Journalist Sophie travels to Verona with her fiancé, Victor, who is more infatuated with Italian pasta than with his woman. While visiting Juliet's House, Sophie accidentally finds a note left by an Englishwoman half a century ago, who was in love with an Italian man.
Sophie decides to respond to the letter, and soon an elderly woman arrives in Verona with her handsome young grandson.
The movie is naive, but from the perspective of the 2020s, its naivety has a special charm; – such rom-coms and sentimental journeys don't exist anymore. Seyfried and the great Vanessa Redgrave make a wonderful female duo.
4. 'Long Bright River', 2025
IMDb Score: 6.8/10

Mickey is a police patrol officer who works in Kensington, one of Philadelphia's most disadvantaged neighborhoods. The area is primarily populated by sex workers and people with addictions.
Mickey's colleagues turn a blind eye to the regular deaths that occur there. When young women began dying en masse in Kensington, Mickey is the only one who realizes drugs aren't the cause.
The project allowed Amanda to radically change her persona. Mickey is a strong woman with a difficult job – a single mother and a police officer who fights an uphill battle against the injustices of capitalism and patriarchy.
5. 'Mank', 2020
IMDb Score: 6.8/10

Herman Mankiewicz is a screenwriter from Hollywood's golden age who is known by the nickname Mank. A complex man, he suffered from alcoholism and a gambling addiction, made cynical jokes, and clashed with colleagues.
Mankiewicz and director Orson Welles co-wrote the screenplay for Citizen Kane, one of the most famous films in the history of world cinema.
David Fincher's monumental black-and-white film is stylized like the Hollywood masterpieces of that era. Seyfried plays Marion Davies, a silent film star.
Seyfried is superb in the scene with the ruined party, where her character, witnessing Mank ruin his future, remains silent, holding back tears.
