With these mythical creatures back in the spotlight thanks to the HBO show, we looked for other great portrayals of them in the movies.

Dragons have always fascinated people, and are arguably the most popular fictional creatures of all time; if you see a fantasy setting, chances are you will see at least one of them.

Dragons have also gained a lot of popularity in the last few years, mainly due to the TV series Game of Thrones and its prequel House of the Dragon. So we chose other great depictions of these creatures in other media.

Dragonheart (1996)

This story about a knight who befriends a dragon (voiced by the legendary Sean Connery) is set in a more traditional medieval England.

The actor does a great job of making this majestic ancient creature believable, and if you like such stories, this is a movie for you.

Dragonslayer (1981)

A classic of the 80's dark fantasy movies, and while the effects may look dated now, the dragon Vermithrax Pejorative looked very impressive at the time.

A classic story about fighting a dragon, you might really enjoy it if you like 80s movies.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

When audiences saw Smaug's eye at the end of the previous film, they were immediately excited to see the iconic dragon in all his glory.

And Peter Jackson didn't disappoint, as Benedict Cumberbatch 's motion-captured Smaug was absolutely stunning and the best thing to come out of the otherwise controversial Hobbit movies.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

The Hungarian Horntail may have only appeared briefly in the fourth film as part of one of the Goblet of Fire trials, but it completely stole the show, making the sequence one of the most memorable in an already intense and important film.

The most recent addition to our list, Themberchaud stands out for how unique and hilarious he was.

We have never seen an obese dragon in any other medium, so Dungeons & Dragons deserves a spot here for introducing viewers to one of the most unusual-looking dragons of all time.
