5 Best Shows With a Finale Even More Shocking Than The White Lotus Season 3

Bad things come in threes, but here’s five for you to dwell on instead of Mike White’s one.
The White Lotus ’ latest season has been the most popular thing to talk about recently, with the instalment’s finale proving some theories right and others completely wrong.
Without too many spoilers ahead, the omnipresent and pretty menacing-looking monkeys were innocent after all, while Rick’s father did in fact pay a sudden visit to the luxurious resort.
To many, the final outcome turned out to be way more devastating than they expected, but Mike White’s chaotic drama isn’t the only one to offer plot twists like this. In fact, The White Lotus’ season 3 might have just joined a pretty long list of shows that surely will make you ugly cry once you reach the finale.
Game of Thrones ( 2011 — 2019)
The list wouldn’t be complete without the publicly slammed season 8 of Game of Thrones which, to many fans, was nothing short of an atrocious betrayal for George Martin ’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
Daenerys’ fate might have been the most shocking plot twist, but not the only one, joined by a sudden and weird decision regarding Bran Stark and Arya’s unexpected change of mind, even though she’s been heading towards a different thing throughout the previous seasons.
With a disheartening rating of 4 out of 10 on IMDb, Game of Thrones’ final episode is a sad conclusion to one of the most epic series in TV history.
Succession ( 2018 — 2023)
After four consecutive seasons exploring the Roy siblings’ fights for their father’s media empire, Succession eventually brings a shocking finale that might make you feel bad for all three, no matter how much you hated them all this time.
Even after Logan Roy’s sudden death which obviously prevented him from keeping the whole control over his kids, Kendall, Roman and Shiv were still haunted by their dominant father’s reassurance that neither of them deserved to become his rightful successor; the series’ finale is a climax of it all.
Big Little Lies (2017 — 2019)
Despite promising to come back with a third season, HBO’s mystery drama Big Little Lies provided an almost definite finale of the entire story in season 2, making its fans feel like the ending just couldn’t be any weirder.
After delving into the details of a mysterious murder for two seasons straight, the lead group of friends is seen heading towards a decision that would demolish all the alibi they’d been building for themselves and jeopardise their children’s future.
Years later, many fans still can’t forgive Big Little Lies for completely ruining the story with a meaningless plot twist, and a promised third season is unlikely to change that.
Breaking Bad ( 2008 — 2013)
Arguably one of the greatest TV shows of all time, Breaking Bad concluded with something that looked just suspiciously good to many fans.
That said, the series gave Walter White the happiest ending possible, causing lots of speculation among viewers that suggested the finale was nothing more than the character’s fever dream.
Either way, the word “shocking” fits here quite well as something describing a surprising, but still positive matter.
Lost (2004 — 2010)
A legendary sci-fi drama, Lost went even further in its finale, proving that it has been playing a tricky game with its audiences’ mind all along.
The series’ final episode had its fans’ jaws dropped when it was revealed that the entire ordeal of surviving on a remote island was in fact a thing quite far from what seemed like the most certain reality.
Even remaining one of the most memorable endings to an epic show, Lost’s finale was still a divisive matter, with many fans complaining about the series moving into a completely different direction instead of giving the viewers the answers they craved for.
