5 Best ‘The Simpsons’ Flash-Forward Episodes

The Simpsons is great in many aspects, but there’s one thing that nobody did better, and it’s creating stories in the future. Here are some of the best episodes created with that formula.
Since there are no new The Simpsons episodes currently airing, it may be the best time to play a game and rewatch the series in mixed order. For example, why not remind yourself of the best flashforward episodes?
There are so many of them that deciding which to use will be hard, however these 5 episodes are still widely considered the best ones set in the future. Let’s dive in!
1. “Bart to the Future” (Season 11, Episode 17)
The best flash-forward episode is definitely this one, however it is also one of the greatest in general. It simply does everything right – from settings to character development and details that make it perfect.
The episode follows Bart visiting a fortune teller, who shows him the future in which Bart is a failed musician, leaving a loser's life. On the other hand, Lisa is the President of the U.S., struggling with the legacy her predecessor left her. Tired from everything, Bart decides to move in with his sister, and that brings us many both annoying and also heartwarming scenes.
2. “Lisa’s Wedding” (Season 6, Episode 19)
Another pitch-perfect episode that comes from a fortune teller is this one, from the so-called “Golden age” of The Simpsons. In this episode Lisa is told the story of her first love. We meet Hugh, whom she started dating while she was studying abroad, and he seems like everything she wanted.
However, when they came to visit her family in Springfield, she realised the huge gap her parents had with him and his family. And it was the exact moment she realised that she is not ashamed of her roots and wants to be a Simpson. The episode is very emotional, making Lisa realize the true value of family bond.
3. “Future-Drama” (Season 16, Episode 15)
“Future-Drama” is another brilliant episode that features the Simpsons in the future. This time, it’s Lisa and Bart’s graduation, with Marge and Homer being separated and Lisa being married to Millhouse. It’s also the one where Bart is devastated for being dumped by his girlfriend and being told by Professor Frink that he will only find love at the age of 83.
4. “Barthood” (Season 27, Episode 9)
Another fundamental episode for Bart’s character growth is this one, where his life is explored since he was five years old. The episode carefully goes through the most important relationships in his life, making sure we see how every member of the family affects his future choices.
5. “Holidays of Future Passed” (Season 23, Episode 9)
This episode features the Simpsons kids each struggling with their own families. Bart is trying to become a better father to his kids, while being divorced again. Lisa and Millhouse (again as a couple) face the consequences of having a teenage daughter. Meanwhile, Maggie is a world famous singer who is now in labour.
