Avid fantasy buffs will be in for a treat this year.

Netflix subscribers who love fantasy may be familiar with the critically panned The Witcher and the somewhat controversial Avatar: The Last Airbender, the acclaimed One Piece, the disappointingly canceled Shadow and Bone, or Neil Gaiman 's excellent adaptation of his own graphic novel, The Sandman. Of course, the streaming service has no intention of stopping there, and continues to treat its users to ever-louder announcements and releases of intriguing fantasy projects.

In 2024 alone, at least five full-length fantasy films will be released. A French comedy based on a famous card game and two animated movies, a sequel to Zack Snyder's epic space opera, and a dark fantasy headlined by the star of Stranger Things. Let's take a look at these promising fantasy releases that are sure to delight us this year.

5. Family Pack

Release Date: TBD

Genre: Fantasy, Comedy, Adventure

Our list begins with the adventure comedy Family Pack, based on the card game The Werewolves of Thiercelieux, which is itself based on the famous Werewolves, aka Mafia. It was directed by François Uzan, who Netflix subscribers may know as the co-creator of the popular French mystery thriller series Lupin. And if that doesn't get you hooked, the movie's star, Jean Reno, will!

The story follows a modern family who stumble upon a mysterious card game and find themselves transported to the Middle Ages, full of dangerous werewolves.

4. In Your Dreams

Release Date: TBD

Genre: Animation, Fantasy, Comedy, Adventure

Next up is the incredibly intriguing Netflix Original, In Your Dreams. The new animated feature promises to be in the spirit of the Pixar classics. However, production is being handled by California-based Kuku Studios in association with Sony Pictures Imageworks.

The plot is somewhat reminiscent of Coraline, as it revolves around children Stevie and her brother Elliot, who can only imagine a happy, perfect family in their dreams. However, instead of being transported to a nightmarish alternate universe, they find themselves in a wonderful realm of dreams where the Sandman himself is trying to save their parents' marriage.

3. The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

Release Date: TBD

Genre: Animation, Dark Fantasy, Adventure

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will take place somewhere in Season 1 and will be an adaptation of the short story A Small Sacrifice, which is part of Andrzej Sapkowski's Sword of Destiny collection, which is where the whole saga basically started. The story follows Geralt and Jaskier, as they attempt to resolve the conflict between humans and merpeople.

As with Nightmare of the Wolf, South Korean Studio Mir is handling development. The director is Kang Hei Chul, animator of Nightmare of the Wolf and director of another popular Netflix series, Lookism.

2. Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver

Release Date: April 19, 2024 (Theaters)

Genre: Space Opera, Action, Adventure

Although Zack Snyder once again failed to impress the critics and this time even the audience, Rebel Moon remains his biggest passion project of the last few years, and so a sequel will hit the big screens this spring, continuing the story of Kora, played by Sofia Boutella.

1. Damsel

Release Date: March 8, 2024

Genre: Dark Fantasy, Action, Adventure

But perhaps the most anticipated film is the dark fantasy Damsel, which marks Millie Bobby Brown 's transition from horror sci-fi roles to dark fantasy roles. Damsel subverts traditional stories of brave knights, fearsome dragons and beautiful princesses waiting to be rescued, as the plot has Brown's noblewoman surviving in a creepy cave where she has been abandoned by the family of the prince she is supposed to be consorting with.
