Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is making waves at the global box office – his epic adaptation of the ancient myth will undoubtedly be a top contender in the upcoming awards season.

However, film buffs and book lovers shouldn't get complacent: a veritable barrage of adaptations awaits us in the near future, ranging from cult sci-fi classics to another Hunger Games prequel.

1. 'Verity'

Release Date: October 2, 2026

Verity has every chance of duplicating the success of The Housemaid. The plot centers on failed writer Lowen. Desperate to escape her debt, she agrees to become a ghostwriter for Verity Crawford, author of a popular novel series.

After Verity falls into a coma following a car accident, her husband, Jeremy, hires Lowen to complete the new chapter of the saga on time.

While working on the book, Lowen stumbles upon an autobiographical manuscript, which portrays Verity as a cruel, tyrannical, and manipulative woman. Meanwhile, Lowen gradually develops feelings for Jeremy.

2. 'Neuromancer'

Release Date: January 22, 2027

William Gibson's science fiction novel Neuromancer profoundly influenced the genre: published in 1984, the novel was a precursor to movies such as The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell, and eXistenZ.

However, fans had to wait 43 years for the first adaptation. On January 22, the Apple TV series adaptation starring Callum Turner will premiere.

The story centers on a hacker named Case who decides to rob a powerful corporation. The mission quickly goes awry, though, and the talented cybercriminal finds himself fighting for his life.

3. 'Dune: Part Three'

Release Date: December 18, 2026

Dune: Part Three will conclude Denis Villeneuve's epic trilogy. The plot is based on Frank Herbert's second novel in the series, Dune Messiah. The book takes place 12 years after the events of Dune.

Paul Atreides has become emperor and a symbol of freedom for the Fremen. Muad'Dib's power haunts his enemies, who join forces in hopes of eliminating the ruler.

After an assassination attempt leaves him blind, Paul retains his ability to "see." According to Fremen law, he retreats into the desert, leaving his children to be raised by Irulan.

4. 'Klara and the Sun'

Release Date: October 22, 2026

After the Oscar success of Jojo Rabbit, Taika Waititi's career took a turn for the worse. The director became bogged down in streaming services, and his movies, Thor: Love and Thunder and Next Goal Wins, failed to gain much traction with audiences.

Therefore, the upcoming sci-fi drama Klara and the Sun has the potential to be one of the most important films of Waititi's career. The plot is based on Kazuo Ishiguro's dystopian novel of the same name.

Josie's parents buy their daughter a companion doll named Klara. She quickly bonds with the robot and together they explore the world around them. However, their friendship eventually comes to an end.

5. 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'

Release Date: November 20, 2026

The sixth movie in the franchise, Sunrise of the Reaping will take place 25 years before the first chapter of the saga – it will tell the story of Haymitch Abernathy's early life.

Francis Lawrence, who directed all but the first movie in the series, will helm this one. Sunrise of the Reaping boasts a cast that is in no way inferior to those of its predecessors.

It includes Maya Hawke, Mckenna Grace, Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin, and many others. Katniss Everdeen played by Jennifer Lawrence is also expected to make a cameo appearance.
