5 Disney Sequels That Fit the Story Perfectly

It might be time to give them a rewatch before Coco’s second movie comes along.
Disney stories remain a pure classic of animated movies even when the studio’s decisions aren’t exactly what its fans wanted all along.
The mouse house has been long known for seeking more attention from its audiences, offering them sequels and threequels of some of the most famous movies ever produced by Disney.
In the wake of the recent news about the planned production of a sequel to the studio’s major 2017 hit Coco, fans aren’t sure whether it was a right decision to let the story go on after a seemingly perfect ending.
However, not all of Disney’s sequels are an unnecessary addition; some of these at the time were even able to give its original movie more profound layers, eventually being placed even higher than the first film.
An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000)
A sequel to 1995’s A Goofy Movie, An Extremely Goofy Movie delves into the importance of father-son relationships, seeing Max finally make his big wish come true and get away from his dad for parties and endless fun at college.
However, Goofy is determined to keep his bond with Max, coming to a pretty shocking decision to get an education alongside his son. An Extremely Goofy Movie is a worthy continuation of the story that, despite turning into a different direction, is still full of truly funny moments happening to its charming characters.
Frozen II (2019)
Though the movie was repeatedly slammed for radical changes in its storyline and musical style, Frozen II is able to stand up to its predecessor thanks to being a different, but more serious movie, tackling several themes other Disney films wouldn’t even dare to get close to.
Now not focusing much on Elsa and Anna’s relationship, Frozen II explores interpersonal issues on a global scale, highlighting how important it is to preserve indigenous cultures and what the entire world would become if people stopped caring about the environment.
While the first movie is still more memorable, Frozen II is an unfairly forgotten masterpiece and a great film for Disney’s older audiences.
The Lion King 1 1/2 (2004)
Both a prequel and sequel to 1994’s Lion King, the movie might be one of the reasons why Timon and Pumbaa are one of the most renowned and beloved characters in the entire Disney universe.
The Lion King 1 1/2 stays away from Simba’s story, instead focusing on his loyal friends’ adventures during the time when Simba was no one else but a lost lion cub.
Unlike many spinoffs and sequels produced by Disney for its movies, The Lion King 1 1/2 remains faithful to its original source material and is considered one of the best films the studio put its hand to.
Aladdin and The King of Thieves (1996)
While Aladdin’s first sequel titled The Return of Jafar didn’t really have anything to offer and ultimately garnered mostly negative reviews, The King of Thieves makes it up to the franchise’s previous instalment.
The movie pushes the story forward, showing Aladdin and Princess Jasmine getting things ready for their wedding when something bad happens again, prompting Aladdin to fight against the evil one more time.
The return of Robin Williams as Genie also adds a significant portion of charm to The King of Thieves, making it a worthy continuation after a previous failed sequel.
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018)
A pretty much needed sequel to Wreck-It Ralph released several years prior, Ralph Breaks the Internet might be not just an entertaining watch, but also a manual for how to navigate through modern technologies that the internet wouldn’t be existing without nowadays.
From cyber attacks to the exploration of what the Dark Web really is, the movie tackles complicated matters through something Disney’s audiences are already familiar with: the significance of friendship and ability to take the responsibility for your own actions.
