How painful the realistic image could be to actors behind the scenes.

The actor’s work often gets underrated, especially when it comes to the topic of their external transformation for their roles. It can be regarded as a matter of costume directors, prop masters and makeup artists while actors just wear what they are given, but the reality is much tougher than it seems to be.

Here are five movie situations when clothes, makeup and other filming stuff injured actors on set.

1. Harrison Ford ’s scars from his famous Indiana Jones hat

This fact can leave fans of the Jones franchise freaked out, but during the filming of Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1980 the famous hat was stapled onto Ford’s forehead to achieve its stable position in the action scenes.

Many years later the actor confessed a significant number of scars have remained with him forever. However, he doesn’t regret them at all!

2. X-Men Mystique’s iconic makeup caused Jennifer Lawrence ’s skin problems

The actress’ participation in the 2011 prequel X-Men: First Class brought to her not only popularity, but serious skin issues.

Her head-to-toe blue makeup, which has been applied for eight hours a day, caused “boils, rashes and blisters”, which she confessed later. That’s why the bodypaint was replaced by a bodysuit in the next X-men film.

3. Stranger Things ’ sauna test got Dacre Montgomery bruised

One of the most remarkable scenes of the whole series, the fourth episode of Season 3, left not only Montgomery's character, Billy Hargrove, who went under the control of an evil creature, traumatized, but the actor himself.

It’s extremely horrifying to realize he received real injuries just under his bruise prosthetics. “I peeled all the skin off the top of my toes in real life”, the actor recalled about his painful experience.

4. Elizabeth Reaser’s eye pain on the Twilight set

The Esme Cullen actress, who was strictly required to wear colored contact lenses as well as the other onscreen vampires, stated she couldn’t bear eye trouble caused by the “beyond annoying” lenses combined with fake paper snow used in the final battle scene.

But those signature yellow Cullen eyes, though!

5. Problems with The Lord of the Rings ’ orc prosthetics

The actor Stephen Ure, who portrayed the orc Grishnakh in the Tolkien’s saga movie adaptations, struggled to breath while wearing the heavy face prosthetics.

Once he even got a panic attack from it, and at first no one could tell it was caused by his makeup.
