How Is Edgar Wright’s 'The Running Man' Different from Schwarzenegger’s Classic?

It takes the story beyond the studio with massive, jaw-dropping action.
When I first heard Edgar Wright was remaking The Running Man, I immediately thought of the 1987 Schwarzenegger classic — and yes, I love that movie.
But let’s be real, it mostly stayed inside a single TV studio, which made the epic contest feel a little… contained. Wright’s version, though, sounds like it’s taking the story to a whole new level.
Glen Powell, who plays Ben Richards, told Empire:
"There are some sick shots in this movie. I talked to Edgar about this. I was like, 'I need people to know that it's me sprinting.' So he designed an amazing shot in the movie where I can fully unleash. I didn't want people to be like, 'He was good at everything except for running!'"
He also shared some insane action beats that made me practically hold my breath:
"We're hanging on the side of buildings. We're jumping off of moving cars and trains. An elevator plummets while I'm inside of it. There's an amazing airplane fight sequence that is just incredible."
Honestly, just hearing Powell describe it makes me think this isn’t just a remake — it’s a full-blown evolution of the original. Wright is taking The Running Man from a contained TV-game spectacle to a cinematic adrenaline rush, and I can’t wait to see it.
