Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for TV shows to start out very strong and then be dragged out for money. There are so many examples of this that it would be impossible to list them all. But that's no reason to give up on these shows. You just have to know where to stop before the whole experience is ruined.

Supernatural ( 5 seasons)
From the beginning, Supernatural was only meant to last 5 seasons, and that was obvious to any viewer who stuck with the show longer than that. Of course, it was hard to let go of favorite characters and the mystery, but some fans are sure it was even harder to stay and suffer through bad writing.
Heroes (1 season)
The best thing about Heroes in the context of this list is that it was always intended to be cast-shifting, so Season 1 can easily be watched as an isolated story without losing any plot. It was the popularity of the show that changed the creator's mind and forced him to change the concept, ultimately ruining it, but season 1 remains an example of great television.
Killing Eve ( 1 season)
No other season of Killing Eve hits as hard as season 1. The story is intense and thrilling, the acting of Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer keeps you on the edge of your seat. Everything that follows isn't nearly as impressive, so if you don't want to be disappointed, watch Killing Eve as a miniseries.
House of Cards (U.S.) (2 seasons)
The original U.K. version had 3 seasons, but fans of the U.S. show feel it would be pretty well done with two. Anything beyond that was unnecessary and felt drawn out and boring at best. So if you have heard a lot about how good this show is, consider sticking with the first two seasons before you lose the plot.
Dexter (4 seasons)
Just like other shows on this list, Showtime 's Dexter went downhill at some point. Season 5 of the show was still good, but it didn't hit nearly as hard as the finale of season 4. The ending could have been a lot more meaningful if the showrunners had decided to end Dexter there, but you can still fix it yourself.
