The nominees have been announced — and people on the Internet already have a lot to say.

It’s a huge day to be a cinephile today, as the full list of Oscars 2025 nominees is finally here, and it is already making waves on social media. Traditionally, however, it’s not even about those who got the nomination, but rather about those who didn’t. From breakout performances to critically acclaimed films, the snubs have already left audiences reeling.

As the Internet continues to rumble, we have collected what fans believe to be the biggest and most unfair snubs of Oscars 2025.

Challengers for Best Original Score

The film that had everyone obsessed with the tennis aesthetic in 2024 has unfortunately not been nominated for Best Original Score, which fans think is ridiculous — especially in light of the fact that the film previously won the Golden Globes for its original score.

Fans are already calling the Academy’s selections “tone-deaf,” arguing that the score for Challengers doesn’t ever leave their everyday playlists. Among the nominees in this category this year are The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot.

Margaret Qualley for Best Supporting Actress

One of the biggest surprises of the nominations list is the absence of Margaret Qualley in the Best Supporting Actress category. Qualley was thought to deserve a nomination for her performance in The Substance, but the reality was much harsher.

Not only are fans outraged by the Qualley snub, they are also surprised about who actually made it to the shortlist. Among other nominees in this category are Ariana Grande ( for Wicked), Monica Barbaro (for A Complete Unknown), Felicity Jones (for The Brutalist), Isabella Rosselini (for Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (for Emilia Pérez).

Conclave for Best Cinematography

The fact that Conclave has already been nominated in several categories may surprise you to find it in this article, but fans are particularly upset that the film was not nominated by the Academy for Best Cinematography. A lot of people thought this nomination had been secured by Conclave, but the Oscar nominations list always has a way of surprising you.

The movies who did receive a nomination in this category are The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Maria, and Nosferatu.

Denis Villeneuve for Best Director

Dune: Part Two may not have been snubbed in this year's Oscar nominations, but its director Denis Villenueve certainly was — or so many outraged cinephiles are complaining online.

Some fans even believe that the Academy has bad blood with the director, considering that the previous Dune film also failed to receive an Oscar nomination for directing.

In Best Director, the following filmmakers will compete: Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).

Angelina Jolie for Best Actress

This year's Oscar nominees are missing some big names, and unfortunately Angelina Jolie is one of them. Fans were enthralled by her performance in Maria, especially the vocal challenge she mastered so beautifully. But it seems it wasn't enough to impress the Academy.

Among the nominees for Best Actress are Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance), and Fernanda Torres (I'm Still Here).
