5 Netflix Romcoms to Watch if You Can’t Forget About La Dolce Villa

The number one movie on Netflix’s global top isn’t the only romance-fuelled story the streamer has to offer.
Released on Netflix just a week ago, a new romantic comedy La Dolce Villa from Freaky Friday and Mean Girls’ director Mark Waters is a new streaming hit that is very unlikely to be beaten by any other flick anytime soon.
The movie stars Scott Foley and follows a pretty familiar story of a wealthy father dragged to another side of the world to stop his daughter from wasting his money, though everything changes when this wealthy father finds another reason to stay a little longer than he expected.
Despite mixed reviews, La Dolce Villa is still a major hit that many have already checked out, though Netflix has quite many similar options in store in case you crave another good romcom.
Falling Inn Love
Another romantic comedy that deals with real estate issues, Falling Inn Love follows Gabriella, a city girl that suddenly and utterly runs out of luck when she loses both her job and her boyfriend.
In an act of desperation, Gabriella enters a seemingly silly and non-promising competition which she wins, becoming the owner of some kind of hotel in the New Zealand countryside. The entire thing needs a total renovation though, and Gabriella hires a contractor who helps her restore the hotel and, well, believe in love once again.
Released all the way back in 2019, Falling Inn Love was also praised by critics, as the movie is currently holding a score of 71% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Find Me Falling
This Netflix romcom from last year might be a good option for those who already miss La Dolce Villa’s European vibes.
Find Me Falling follows rock star John Allman, whose career goes down drastically when his latest music album becomes his biggest failure. Desperate to hide from everyone, John escapes to a remote house near a cliff in Cyprus, which, surprisingly, is quite a popular choice among those who are obsessed with suicidal thoughts.
Unwilling to delve into the whole matter, John is still forced to cooperate with a police captain, which later leads him to realizing that his former love interest has also been living nearby all this time.
Lonely Planet
Also released back in 2024, Lonely Planet stars Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth as an unlikely couple, the sparks for whom start flying when they meet at a writers’ retreat in Morocco.
While Dern’s Katherine tries to find a way to overcome her writer’s block, Hemsworth’s Owen is just there as another author’s plus one, having nothing else to do but making attempts to befriend some big names out there.
Lonely Planet is another romcom about a slow-burn romance that gradually evolves into something bigger, starting as a friendship. The movie’s storyline caused concerns among critics, but Dern and Hemsworth’s performances received universal praise.
Love in the Villa
La Dolce Villa’s Italian views and charming romantic story was partially introduced in another comedy from Netflix released back in 2022.
Love in the Villa follows Julie, a third-grade teacher who makes her dream almost come true when she books a trip to Verona, an Italian city where Romeo & Juliet’s events unfold. However, the good news isn’t met with enthusiasm by her boyfriend, so Julie embarks on a solo trip trying to deal with a sudden and painful breakup.
As if this wasn’t dramatic enough, she then discovers that the villa she’s been staying in has actually been booked twice, and now she has to share the place with a British guy she doesn’t feel good about.
Wedding Season
Despite following a pretty predictable plot, Wedding Season was good enough for critics to consider it a solid watch with 88% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie takes a look at the life of Asha who starts everything afresh after calling off her engagement, leaving her successful banking career and moving to a new city. Her mother, however, sees the only key to her daughter’s happiness in a good marriage, which is what she persuades by setting Asha up with Ravi, whose parents are actually doing the same.
When the two meet for the first time, they decide it’s time to get rid of their parents’ concern for their kids’ love life. Seeing only the positive side of such an outcome, Asha and Ravi pretend to be a couple for any special outing that each of them has, though soon they realize they might have really fallen for each other.
