There are moments in cinema that stay with you long after the credits roll. And usually they are not explosions or big revelations, but simple intimate moments between characters. Like… first kisses.

So, let's talk romance. While rom-coms are probably the most under-appreciated movies, they are still favorites for many people (me, I’m the people). It’s just that they serve different purposes for different viewers.

For people in love they are the reminder that love is all around and the confirmation of their own love. These people see themselves in movie stories. For those who are heartbroken, romantic comedies serve as places to escape in order to never lose hope that love exists.

But the biggest part romantic comedies play in the lives of those who never experienced love, never had an awkward date and who are still waiting for their first kiss to happen. And here I have a list of movies with the most romantic scenes of first kisses. So, maybe they will inspire you to make that first move?

7. 'The Princess Bride' (1987)

This one is definitely a favorite movie from childhood, and frankly I am disappointed that Westley and Buttercup's first kiss is not talked about enough. Everything about that scene was pure magic, including the emotional buildup and the way Westley reveals his true identity just before their lips meet for the first time.

6. 'Dirty Dancing' (1987)

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey's chemistry was something unexpected and unpredictable, but when you finally felt that there was no coming back. And their first real kiss, both tender and hesitant after their iconic dance lesson, showed the perfect blend of Baby’s innocence and passion she was finally recognizing in herself.

The scene worked perfectly because it wasn't rushed. We watched Baby transform from a naive girl into a confident woman throughout the film. And when Johnny finally sees her as an equal, their kiss turns into some sort of a symbol of her coming-of-age journey.

5. 'Sixteen Candles' (1984)

There are a lot of high-school romance movies, but let’s give a round of applause to this old gem created by John Hughes. Molly Ringwald and Michael Anthony Hall's characters’ awkward first kiss over a birthday cake was both cringe-worthy and absolutely perfect. And that was what made it absolutely realistic.

It’s relatable to teenagers, because the pitch perfect moment everybody is talking about may never find you, but it doesn't make your awkward first kiss any less important.

4. 'Ghost' (1990)

This supernatural romance starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore took the basic premise of “love beyond death” and gave it deeper meaning. When Sam finally manages to touch Molly through Whoopi Goldberg's medium abilities, their kiss, although being their first, becomes a real farewell.

3. 'The Notebook' (2004)

No, I didn't only add this movie for those who are obsessed with Ryan Gosling. The fact is undeniable that the rain scene from the movie is actually one of cinema's most passionate first kisses, and it deserved every bit of attention this romantic drama received.

“Ryan Gosling pulls the boat up to the dock, and Rachel McAdams demands, "Why didn't you write to me? Why!?" leading into the unforgettable moment when he declares, "It isn't over... it still isn't over," before he kisses her. It's pure film romance magic,” Redditor Nattoricefurikake said.

2. 'Casablanca' (1942)

Let’s talk classic! Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman's wartime romance definitely took all the best elements of both genres while exploring the psychological aspect of sacrifice. Their first kiss in the Paris flashback sequence follows two people falling desperately in love before the world tears them apart.

1. 'Lady and the Tramp' (1955)

And of course I wouldn't be me if I didn’t choose a cartoon for the number one. A first kiss is something innocent but long awaited. Something you are afraid of but still can’t resist. And when the time comes, you know it’s right, even when the circumstances feel odd.

This animated Disney romance shows us two dogs from different worlds finding love over a plate of… spaghetti. The scene remains one of the most iconic romantic moments ever created in cinema, and one that others try to recreate all the time.
