5 Perfect Shows to Watch With Your Younger Siblings

They may not always share your tastes in literally everything, but watching these great shows together can actually bring you closer to your younger sibling.
Finding the perfect show to watch with your brother or sister can be a challenge, and I know from personal experience. My sister is 9 years younger than me, and 90% of the shows out there definitely have storylines and scenes that are awkward for us to watch together. Because even though she is an adult, she is still a five-year-old kid to me, and watching even a slightly inappropriate show will be my worst nightmare.
Of course, that's not all that matters. Finding something we like is also a difficult decision because of our different tastes. For example, I like crime dramas, but I'm not sure she'll ever agree to watch Death in Paradise with me, even though it's perfectly fine for a person her age.
So I decided to try watching a certain sitcom with her once, and it was actually a success! Then I did some research and found a few more shows that we could easily binge together. And so this list of 5 perfect shows to binge with your younger siblings was born.
1. Modern Family ( 2009-2020)
The need to watch something together arises when we order takeout and are kind of forced to eat together. And while we both love to watch something while eating, in those situations it has to be something mutual. So once I suggested we watch Modern Family, and since she had already seen several funny tiktoks about the show, she successfully agreed.
Modern Family is definitely one of the funniest sitcoms ever created. It's a heartwarming show that follows the lives of three different families, each with their own unique (but just as quirky) dynamics. The show tackles all the major issues that can appear in a family, but does it in its own unique way, and you can really relate to almost every character at one point or another.
2. H2O: Just Add Water (2006-2010)
This is a different way you can go with your sibling, by choosing something aimed for teenagers, but still captivating enough to invest your own time into. The magical fantasy story of three friends, Cleo, Emma, and Rikki, suddenly realizing that they are half mermaids is a perfect watch for the fans of the genre.
The series has it all: friendship, hilarious adventures, dangerous revelations, and, of course, romance. All the characters in the series face relatable struggles like balancing their secret lives with their social lives while learning valuable lessons about responsibility and self-discovery. Definitely worth a try if you are tired of high-stakes drama or other adult shows with complex storylines.
3. Abbott Elementary ( 2021-)
Another perfect sitcom for binge-watching is Abbott Elementary. Created in a mockumentary style, the series takes a look at the daily lives of teachers in an underfunded elementary school in Philadelphia. What’s important though is that while it's an absolutely hilarious and delightful watch, the show is actually very insightful, showing the challenges teachers face while still making a significant impact on their students.
The dynamic between the quirky staff members like Janine and Ava and the kids provides so many wholesome moments that younger siblings will definitely appreciate the show. While watching Abbott Elementary, the two of you can also talk about your time at school and share some memories with each other.
4. Wednesday ( 2022-)
If you love dark stories as much as we do, Wednesday is the perfect choice. It is an ideal blend of dark comedy, mystery and a touch of gothic charm. As the name suggests, the series focuses on one of the most beloved members of the Addams Family, Wednesday, and her teenage years while attending Nevermore Academy. It also tackles all the important themes of friendship and self-discovery, but with a Tim Burton twist.
And this is actually the case when a show can bring you closer. The two of us were rooting for Wednesday and Tyler to become a thing. Well, I hope the final reveal doesn’t mean that we both have terrible taste in men…
5. Only Murders in the Building ( 2021-)
For those who enjoy a good mystery, Only Murders in the Building can be a real gem. This unique blend of comedy and detective story follows three neighbors in a New York City apartment building, who bond over their shared love of true crime podcasts. When a murder takes place in their building, they decide to investigate, all the while documenting the process in their own podcast.
