The distant future of humanity, the colonization of planets and astronauts with amnesia.

Constellation became one of the most expensive series ever produced in Europe. And that commercial investment has paid off – the show has become one of the most popular sci-fi projects of the year.

If you've already binge-watched Constellation, but still need a dose of quality sci-fi, then these five series are for you.

5. The Silent Sea, 2021

IMDb Rating: 6.9/10

In the second half of the 21st century, the earth's water supply has almost dried up, and now the world's population receives water on food cards.

However, the moon still holds unexplored reserves of the precious liquid in its depths, so an expedition to the abandoned lunar station is organized. Five years ago, a radiation leak supposedly occurred there, killing all the workers.

After reaching their destination, a group of scientists and cosmonauts are surprised to discover that the entire station staff did not die from radiation, but from drowning.

The project's budget is comparable to another Korean Netflix hit, Squid Game, which is visible in every frame. And the intriguing plot will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

4. Lost in Space, 2018-2021

IMDb Rating: 7.3/10

The large Robinson family is sent on a huge spaceship with hundreds of Earthlings who are about to be sent to colonize new universes. Due to a sudden attack, the characters fall to an unknown but habitable planet, not knowing if anyone else from the ship's crew has survived.

Despite its frightening premise, Lost in Space is the most optimistic show that you can watch with your kids. The series also surprises with its production: due to the impressive visual effects, it looks like one of the most expensive and popular Netflix series, although in fact it had catastrophically few viewers at the time of its release.

3. Dark Matter, 2015-2017

IMDb Rating: 7.5/10

The series is based on the comic books of the same name created by the writers of the cult TV series Stargate. Perhaps that is why Dark Matter has the nostalgic vibe of the space TV series of the 90s.

And this is not only expressed in the visuals, but also in the story. Here, as in the plots of the best representatives of the genre, social problems play an important role: class inequality and the struggle for rights and independence.

The plot revolves around six people who wake up aboard a damaged spaceship, unable to remember who they are or how they got here. The only thing they have left is the knowledge and skills they acquired before this mysterious awakening. The team must unite to find out who erased their memories and why.

2. Foundation, 2021-...

IMDb Rating: 7.6/10

In the distant future, humanity has settled beyond Earth and founded the Empire – a superstate that spans the Milky Way.

The brilliant mathematician Hari Seldon, using the science he has developed, predicts the inevitable fall of the Empire and creates the Foundation organization. The organization's goal is to revive civilization according to Seldon's Thousand Year Plan and help humanity survive the Dark Ages.

Foundation is one of the most expensive series of recent years: it is Apple's ambitious attempt to bring the book series of the same name by Isaac Asimov, long considered unadaptable, to the screen.

1. The Expanse, 2015-2022

IMDb Rating: 8.5/10

By the beginning of the 23rd century, the solar system has been completely colonized by humans, Mars has gained its independence, and the asteroid belt has been divided into zones of influence. The main character, Detective Joe Miller, investigates the disappearance of the daughter of the CEO of a powerful corporation and inevitably finds himself drawn into a global conspiracy.

One of the best and most underrated sci-fi series of recent years remains The Expanse – an adaptation of the book series of the same name, which resembles a cross between Firefly and Battlestar Galactica.

This is a spectacular space western about a group of smugglers who accidentally find themselves at the epicenter of a large-scale political conspiracy. Perhaps, now is the time to show The Expanse some respect and give it a chance.
