5 Shows So Funny They’ll Make You Cry (In a Good Way)

Laughter is the best form of therapy, right?
Why do we watch TV so much? Well, for me, it's all about the shows that make you feel something. Whether it's a heartbreaking story that proves you have a heart, or a comedy that makes you sure you have a perfect sense of humor.
And while there are too many shows that can guarantee you cry your heart out from sorrow, creating a comedy and making it a fan favorite is a much difficult task. So here we have 5 shows that will make you burst into tears. Trust us when we say that if you need a good laugh, these shows are a must watch!
1. The IT Crowd (2006-2013)
This one is a cult classic from Graham Linehan, and it’s one of those rare shows that gets better with every rewatch. Set in the basement of a London corporation, this British sitcom centers around three quirky employees at the fictional Reynholm Industries.
There are a few main characters. There’s Roy, a pretty frustrated IT technician, Moss, the socially awkward genius, and Jen, the office manager with zero tech skills but a lot of enthusiasm. The show has a sharp and often absurd humor, with slapstick moments that keep you hooked. It will definitely become your favorite.
2. Arrested Development (2003-2019)
This is another iconic show, but we recommend sticking with it for at least the first three seasons. It's a top-notch comedy, smart, absurd, and full of running gags that get funnier the more you watch. The series follows the dysfunctional Bluth family, led by Michael Bluth, who is actually the only sane member of a family where everyone else is self-absorbed, incompetent, or just plain delusional.
“Comedy doesn’t always age well but for me Arrested Development is the funniest show of all time. The writing is some of the most ridiculous, hilarious and layered humour I’ve ever seen. There are so many jokes running through every episode that build off each other in the 20 minutes. It also has for my money the most talented cast ever to be in a comedy series,” one Redditor said.
3. Party Down (2009)
When it comes to comedy with a slightly darker edge, Party Down is your choice. The series is definitely a standout. Set around a catering company in Los Angeles, the show follows a group of down-and-out actors as they navigate their absurd jobs at private events.
Each episode of the show features a new party with a new set of ridiculous guests, and the interactions between the staff members are absolutely absurd, yet so relatable.
“I'd heard a lot about this show but didn't get into it until a few days ago, when I watched all 20 episodes in two days. Wow, is this show amazing? I feel like all the cast members had parts that fit them perfectly. The dry humour matched with the hilarious situational comedy made this show so funny, and I absolutely love that they only focused on each event,” one Redditor said.
4. Fawlty Towers (1975-1979)
Don't be surprised to see such an old show on this list. Fawlty Towers is simply a timeless comedy created by John Cleese. It's a classic British series that follows Basil Fawlty, a hilariously incompetent hotel manager, and his equally ineffective staff as they try (and fail) to run a functioning hotel.
There's no show that does chaos better than this one, so we highly recommend you watch it. With only 12 episodes, Fawlty Towers is a short but sweet ride that will have you laughing so hard you might just cry from sheer joy.
5. What We Do in the Shadows (2019-2024)
If you've ever wondered what it would be like if vampires had to live among us in modern society, What We Do in the Shadows is here to answer that question with hilarious results. Based on the 2014 mockumentary film by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, the TV series follows four vampire roommates living in Staten Island as they navigate the bizarre trials and tribulations of eternal life.
