5 Shows That Are Perfect Background Noise While You Work

Sometimes it's so much easier to focus on the important things when there's a little inconvenience around.
It's funny how almost no rules apply when it comes to human nature. For example, sometimes when I'm deep into some serious work, I can't concentrate even if there's as much as just a fly buzzing around or someone breathing too loudly. It can also be someone's (or even my) music that drives me crazy at the same time.
But that's not always the case. Sometimes a little background noise is better for getting the job done, helping you focus on what's important. And what better way to do that than with a TV show?
So here is a list of shows that are perfect for this purpose. Comforting, humorous, and not too demanding of your attention. It would be better if you have watched them at least once, but even if you have not, give them a try.
1. Seinfeld (1989-1998)
There was no way this list could have started with anything else: Seinfeld is the best show to watch with one eye open. There's something about the simplicity of this iconic sitcom that makes it a great choice for background noise. The show is officially known as "the show about nothing," and that's almost true.
Seinfeld follows the chaotic lives of four friends and a bunch of supporting characters. There are no complex storylines and each episode is a specific story with a beginning and an end. With its absurdist humour and quirky characters, it will quickly become your favorite.
2. The Office ( 2005-2013)
Another legendary sitcom is The Office. The mockumentary-style show has become a go-to for many when it comes to background noise, and for good reason. With its lighthearted humor and relatable office dynamics, it creates a relaxed atmosphere. With occasional bursts of laughter when Michael Scott does something particularly silly.
3. Friends (1994-2004)
Friends is probably the most rewatchable show ever created. There's something about these quirky characters and their never-ending shenanigans that keeps you coming back to their lives.
The antics of Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Joey, and Phoebe are enough to lift your mood while still allowing you to focus on the tasks at hand. Its predictable nature means you won’t need to watch every single scene to know what’s going on, just a few laughs here and there are enough to keep you entertained while you get things done.
4. Parks and Recreation
If you're a fan of The Office, Parks and Recreation is your second excellent option. It's shot in a mockumentary style, with funny characters and a lot of absurdist humor. Parks and Rec follows the daily lives of the quirky employees of the Parks and Recreation Department in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana.
Featuring characters like Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson, and Tom Haverford, the show has an easy-to-follow rhythm and plenty of comedy to keep the atmosphere lively while you focus on your job.
5. The Simpsons ( 1989-)
Of course, the list wouldn't be complete without an animated series. The Simpsons is one of the longest running, having been created in 1989 and still running with its latest season on the air. It follows the Simpsons family, and I'm pretty sure you've seen at least some of the episodes on TV.
However, turning it on as background noise is a perfect choice because of the soothing nature of the show. It doesn't matter if it's Bart's laughter, Lisa's saxophone, or Homer's drunken arguments with someone – it still serves the purpose of being a comforting distraction.
