7 Must-See Comedies Coming to Hulu This May

Ben Stiller, Melissa McCarthy and many more are coming to Hulu this May. You can't miss it!
If you love to treat yourself to a more lighthearted watch from time to time, you're in luck because Hulu is adding a whole lot of top-tier comedies this May.
These are my top 7 that I’m going to be watching first. From underrated gems to our favorites, these are just what we all need this season before summer starts.
You can find all of them on Hulu starting May 1st.
Meet the Parents (2000): For Classic Comedy Lovers
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Meet the Parents has 85% from critics and 79% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Meet the Parents is rated 7.0/10.
I'll start strong with Meet the Parents, a comedy that follows Greg Focker (Ben Stiller), a nurse who meets his girlfriend's parents for the first time. He desperately tries to win her father's approval (and fails spectacularly). Everything he does somehow ends in disaster and it's so much fun to watch. Ben Stiller is a comedy legend and Meet the Parents is definitely a must-watch.
Even after 25 years it’s a perfectly rewatchable comedy. And surprisingly, it doesn't feel dated at all.
Spy (2015): For Action Comedy Fans
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Spy has 95% from critics and 78% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Spy is rated 7.0/10.
If anyone ever tells you that action comedies can't be perfect, show them Spy. That movie is always in the back of my mind when I think about the genre. It's that gold standard.
Melissa McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, an office CIA clerk who volunteers to go undercover to prevent a global disaster when her partner falls off the grid. McCarthy absolutely shines in this role, but the rest of the cast including Jason Statham ( hilariously parodying his own tough-guy image) keeps up with McCarthy so well.
Waitress (2007): For Lonely Nights
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Waitress has 89% from critics and 74% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Waitress is rated 7.0/10.
This one's a little different. Waitress is a charming indie dramedy about Jenna (Keri Russell), a small-town waitress dealing with an unexpected pregnancy and a not-so-great marriage. She channels all of her emotions into creating the most amazing pies and giving them names that reflect her life situation.
If you're someone who enjoys comedies with surprisingly deep stories, you don't want to miss Waitress.
Horrible Bosses (2011): For Workplace Humor
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Horrible Bosses has 69% from critics and 70% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Horrible Bosses is rated 6.9/10.
Horrible Bosses takes the universal frustration of work and turns it into one of the most outrageous dark comedies out there.
The story follows three friends who decide they've had enough of their tyrannical employers. Their solution is a hilariously misguided murder plot that goes wrong in every possible way. The ensemble cast, including Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis is a perfect comedic chaos.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013): For Outrageous Laughs
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa has 62% from critics and 60% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is rated 6.5/10.
Bad Grandpa is the first movie in the Jackass series that was nominated for Oscars. The film follows Irving and his grandson Billy as they shock, surprise and scandalize their way across America. The reactions of unsuspecting bystanders (who can't quite believe what they're witnessing) are what make this film so funny.
I know this kind of humor isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you're in the mood for some outrageous comedy that pushes boundaries, Bad Grandpa delivers exactly what it promises.
Austenland (2013): For Date Night
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Austenland has 32% from critics and 54% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Austenland is rated 6.3/10.
For anyone who has ever dreamed of finding their Mr. Darcy, this is for you. Austenland is criminally underrated and I hope everyone gets to see it now that it's on Hulu.
The movie centers on Jane, a Jane Austen obsessive who spends her life savings on an immersive Austen-themed resort experience. This is a charming exploration of fantasy versus reality, complete with awkward social encounters.
Kung FU Panda ( 2008): For Family Movie Nights
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Kung Fu Panda has 87% from critics and 83% from the audience.
- On IMDb, Kung Fu Panda is rated 7.6/10.
Kung Fu Panda is my ultimate feel-good movie that never fails to make me laugh (and cry). It follows Po, a clumsy panda who works in his father's noodle shop and somehow becomes the chosen Dragon Warrior.
The movie never talks down to its audience and is both hilarious and inspiring.
