Just like Voldemort’s Horcruxes, these seven had no real soul in them and ultimately didn’t help anyone by existing.

7. Pansy Parkinson

For some who adds absolutely no value to the story, Pansy Parkinson has way too many mentions. Her only point is to be the insufferable person whose most notable achievement is trying to surrender Harry to Voldemort in The Deathly Hallows.

Pansy feels like a character that once had a purpose but then was randomly discarded.

6. Rolanda Hooch

Madam Hooch is one of the Hogwarts teachers, but she’s… Useless. She’s only there to give first-year students one lesson but still manages to mess it up: she can neither save a falling kid nor prevent problems in her class. What a waste of salary — even Lockhart had some actual classes and took part in important discussions!

5. Gregory Goyle

Just like his fellow buffoon Crabb, Goyle is Draco Malfoy’s sidekick with zero personality other than being dumb and following orders. But Crabb at least gets to destroy a Horcrux, and Goyle forever remains a placeholder for an actual character. There’s some poetic justice in that, but his most notable act was arguing with Draco.

4. Percy Weasley

Don’t get us wrong, Percy was an OK character and we’re glad he redeemed himself in the end. But despite that, he brought nothing to the table: he was intolerable for 95% of the time and helped no one in any way. Percy was entirely devoid of purpose as if the only reason he existed was to show that not all Weasley kids are cool.

3. Nymphadora Tonks

As much as it pains us to say it, Tonks was a terrible character. Being clumsy and able to change your hair color is not a personality! Tonks had amazing potential due to her gift but was reduced to Lupin ’s love interest and died without achieving anything. We would have loved to see her join the Hunt, for one, but nope.

2. Grawp

Hagrid really loved his “little” brother, but fans never had a reason to. There was an entire chapter dedicated to introducing Grawp, but the giant played virtually no role in future events: he didn’t even help take down Umbridge as the Centaurs had her anyway. Grawp was a waste of space in the most literal sense, thanks to his size.

1. Giant Squid

Speaking about wasted potential… We’re not quite as sad about the Giant Squid forever remaining a background prop as we are about Tonks, but still: there’s a giant intelligent beast in the Black Lake that gets mentioned every other chapter, but it does nothing! You’d think the Squid would at least get some action in the finale.
