8 Best Stephen King TV Series to Watch While Waiting for 'It: Welcome to Derry'

All Stephen King fans are waiting for a new project – It: Welcome to Derry, a prequel to the It duology. With three months to go until the series' October release, now is the perfect time to explore the author's other TV projects.
1. 'Mr. Mercedes', 2017-2019

At a job fair, a maniac driving a Mercedes ran over several people. The police were unable to solve the case while the trail was still hot.
When former investigator Bill Hodges lost all hope to crack the case, he received a letter from the killer. The maniac is planning a new attack that could take the lives of thousands of people.
The script for this dark thriller was written by David E. Kelley, who previously adapted Big Little Lies for HBO. Jack Bender, one of the directors of Game of Thrones and The Sopranos, shot most of the episodes.
2. 'Storm of the Century', 1999

After a hurricane cuts off a coastal town from the rest of the world, a mysterious killer named André Linoge arrives. He calls the residents together and forces them to make a difficult choice. Otherwise, they will face inevitable extinction.
King originally wrote the plot for Storm of the Century as a television script. At the same time the author tried to preserve the typical novelistic structure of the story. Ultimately, the novelized version of Storm of the Century was released before the TV series.
3. 'Castle Rock', 2018-2019

After the warden of Shawshank prison commits suicide, his successor opens one of the abandoned prison blocks. There, he finds a man who only remembers Henry Deaver, a man who left Castle Rock long ago. Deaver returns to his hometown, setting off a chain of mysterious events.
This psychological thriller from producer J. J. Abrams cannot be called an adaptation of any particular Stephen King work.
However, it draws from several of King's books, including Cujo, It, Needful Things, and the novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
4. '11.22.63', 2016

Jake Epping, an ordinary school history teacher, gets a unique chance to travel back in time and prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
However, Jake soon realizes that the past is not so easy to change. His attempts to alter the course of history quickly take a dangerous turn.
This dynamic miniseries from J. J. Abrams, starring James Franco, is based on Stephen King's bestseller of the same name. The project blends the romance of the 1960s with supernatural phenomena while remaining touching and emotional.
5. 'Chapelwaite', 2021

Following his wife's death, Charles Boone and his children moved to Chapelwaite, the estate of his deceased cousin, Stephen.
Having not communicated with his relatives for a long time, Charles is surprised to find that everyone dislikes the Boone family. Soon, Charles begins to have strange visions, and people start disappearing in the neighboring town.
The Gothic series is based on King's story Jerusalem's Lot, a prequel to Salem's Lot. However, the series refers not only to King's work, but also to the novels of H. P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker.
6. 'The Outsider', 2020

In a small town, a child is found murdered in the woods, torn to pieces with human teeth marks on his body. Detective Ralph Anderson quickly identifies the main suspect: the coach of a children's baseball team.
Despite the clear evidence, however, the suspect has a 100% alibi. It soon becomes clear that otherworldly forces are involved in the case.
Following the original novel, the series combines a dark detective story with mystical horror based on the life of a small town.
7. 'Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King', 2006

This is an eight-episode anthology. In one story, a killer receives a set of toy soldiers as a gift. In another, a man is paralyzed by a snakebite and ends up in a morgue. In a third story, a married couple finds itself in a city where the most grandiose rock concert is being prepared.
Stephen King is known not only for his large-scale novels. Over the years, he has released several collections of short stories, some of which formed the basis for Nightmares & Dreamscapes.
8. 'Rose Red', 2002

Professor of parapsychology Joyce Reardon and the owner of an old mansion are trying to discover what supernatural forces inhabit the house. At their request, six psychics arrive and conduct a dangerous experiment.
Rose Red is not based on any of the author's novels – it is an original screenplay that King wrote for ABC.
