A simple, but hearty dish that reminded Kit Harington’s character of his home.

Years after coming to its end with the eighth season, HBO’s Game of Thrones remains one of the iconic TV shows that keeps influencing the world of television and, well, culinary. Thanks to A Song of Ice and Fire’s author George Martin, both the original books and their TV adaptation are full of epic feasts that feature some of the most tempting medieval dishes.

Diehard fans will remember the honeyed chicken Jon Snow had alongside his direwolf Ghost in Winterfell, and it’s safe to say some even tried to cook it at home. The good news is that it doesn’t require exotic ingredients and is pretty easy to cook, so make sure you have a Winterfell-y dinner tonight.

Here’s what you need: 1 whole chicken, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, ¾ cup of honey, a handful of raisins or dried cranberries, a pinch of dried mint and salt.

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Rub the chicken with salt and melted butter. Roast for about an hour until cooked through (the juices should run clear when pierced).

While the chicken is in the oven, combine the vinegar, honey, mint, and dried fruit in a saucepan. Simmer the sauce over low heat until it thickens (about 20–30 minutes).

Generously coat the cooked chicken with the sauce and let it rest for 10 minutes.
