'A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms' Delay Has Fans Convinced 'House of the Dragon' S3 Is in Trouble Too

Game of Thrones fans will now have to wait several months more until A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms’ release, though some are convinced it might also hurt House of the Dragon’s season 3 very badly — here’s why.
According to Variety, Game of Thrones’ new spinoff titled A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms isn’t coming to the screens this year after all, despite promises from both Martin and HBO execs.
The real reason behind such a decision remains shrouded in mystery, as well as a possible premiere date of the show’s first season.
However, some fans might have just found one more thing to be worried about, considering that now A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms is set to arrive on streaming the same year as House of the Dragon’s upcoming third season.
‘A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms’ Is Now Slated for 2026 Release
Based on George Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight” and recounting the adventures of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg aka Prince Aegon Targaryen, the spinoff series has been officially pushed to the next year as HBO execs announced at WBD’s upfront presentation on Wednesday.
It’s not clear yet when exactly A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms’ first season will be released, but there’s a reason to believe it’s coming on Max sometime around January or February, as HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys mentioned that the series is now set to be released in the winter.
With a major shift in its schedule, the show will likely arrive on streaming just several months before House of the Dragon’s season 3 will hit the screens. However, some of the fans might not be so sure about it anyway.
‘House of the Dragon’ Fans Now Fear Season 3 Will Be Delayed Too
It’s a pretty rare thing for HBO to have one of its major releases delayed just several months before a potential premiere, so the news did cause a turmoil in the Game of Thrones franchise’s fandom.
“For context, this finished filming in September 2024. I highly doubt it's being delayed because it isn't finished considering it's 6 episodes and is supposed to not have a lot of VFX. Probably means one of three things: 1. They had to shuffle the show's release date because HBO generally likes having one high popularity show going at a time. 2. HOTD S3 is projected to be delayed to 2027 so they're pushing back this show to fill a void. 3. Execs aren't happy with the show and are reshooting some of it”, Redditor TheDewLife explained in a thread.
“Wasn't this show supposed to be on a bi-yearly rotation with HotD, to give GoT content yearly? I wonder if HotD S3 is getting delayed to 2027”, Chad2Badd added to the heated discussion.
“I thought a major point of this series and its 2025 release date was to “hold us over” for the next season of HOTD. What a f—king joke", KemosabeTheDivine ranted.
“The gap between HOTD S2 & S3 will end up longer than the Dance of the Dragons in its entirety”, Upbeat_Tension_8077 noted sarcastically.
