The BAFTA ceremony’s results shifted chances for many Oscar frontrunners, including Jesse Eisenberg’s acclaimed drama.

This year’s awards season in Hollywood is about to get wrapped up at the Oscars ceremony taking place in around 10 days, and things are likely to become quieter as the Academy’s members had the last round of voting the other day.

However, there were too many shifts in the Oscar predictions after the BAFTAs to just ignore them completely, and one of the frontrunners is now very likely to break another long-lasting record.

Directed by and starring Jesse Eisenberg, A Real Pain has already uplifted its chances for becoming the first in years potential winner in the Best Supporting Actor category while not being nominated for Best Picture. Now the movie might also break a different annoying trend by grabbing another statuette, and the BAFTA ceremony results were proof of that.

A Real Pain Is Now the Oscar Frontrunner for Best Original Screenplay Too

Despite Sean Baker’s Anora taking home some major awards for writing at previous ceremonies, Eisenberg’s BAFTA win for Best Original Screenplay is a real deal for the film ahead of the Oscars.

In recent years, the British Oscar has been pretty accurate about predicting several major winners for the American one, so A Real Pain has now undoubtedly gained even higher chances for the statuette in the category.

Additionally, if the stars align for the movie and its Best Original Screenplay win, Jesse Eisenberg’s breakout drama will finally put an end to a disappointing trend that has been ruling over the Academy voters for no less than 20 past years.

Once A Real Pain wins, it will also become the first movie to receive the award without a Best Picture nomination under its belt, just like a 2004 sci-fi drama Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that so far is the last film to do so.

With just two nominations for the upcoming Oscars, the film remains one of the most underrated awards season frontrunners, despite having already received some nods from other major film institutions.

The buddy road comedy-drama stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin as two Jewish cousins who decide to have a trip to their grandmother’s native Poland after she suddenly passes away.

A Real Pain received universal acclaim and is currently holding scores of 96% and 81% from critics and viewers respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, the film has repeatedly stood out at awards ceremonies thanks to Culkin who has already won a Golden Globe for the role and now has the most chances to grab the Oscar too.
