See a chain of brutal murders from the silent killer’s perspective in this critically beloved slasher and bring your entire family as this movie somehow escaped the R.

The film age rating system is positively ridiculous when you think about it. Cuss too much, and you’ll get that pesky R on your movie — but place a camera on a killer who butchers a group of teenagers in the most unhinged fashion, and you’ll remain unrated… Apparently. We’re not exactly sure how this flick avoided the R-rating.

In a Violent Nature Offers a Unique POV

Slashers are often regarded as the least elaborate genre of horror, but there’s a but: thanks to their simplistic and predictable nature, it’s incredibly hard to make them good. Most slashers fall into one of the two categories — “so bad it’s actually good” or “just bad” — and this is a curse that only a handful of directors has broken.

Chris Nash is among them.

The director’s upcoming slasher horror In a Violent Nature follows a vengeful killer corpse that takes its revenge on a group of students who “stole” his locket from the abandoned place in the woods where both he and his prized possession resided. The unique twist is that in Nash’s flick, the camera largely stays on the killer, not the victims, taking the viewer for a gory and brutal ride alongside this monstrous thing.

In a Violent Nature Already Has a Great Start

Apart from its distinct POV, Chris Nash's upcoming movie has two huge things going for it. First, it already has a stellar 95% Critic Score on Rotten Tomatoes, something that few slashers could pull off; second, In a Violent Nature somehow avoided the R-rating, allowing it to hit the theaters with its full force with no age restrictions.

It makes little sense seeing what critics are saying about this movie, though.

“The grossest, most elaborate kill-scenes I’ve ever seen in my life all fit seamlessly, where in other films a similar hodgepodge could fall flat amidst the chaos. This feels classic and completely new all at once,” Salon’s Kelly McClure wrote.

Most others agree with her, celebrating In a Violent Nature’s unique and positively unhinged kill scenes and fresh approach to the genre. If you’re as intrigued by these reviews combined with the movie’s lack of R-rating, get ready: In a Violent Nature is scheduled for a May 31, 2024 release. The dark shadow is coming to us soon!
