Old collaborators, new story — and maybe a career-defining turn.

News of Oliver Stone returning to narrative filmmaking after more than a decade is too good to ignore.

His new project, White Lies, puts Benicio del Toro front and centre in a role that blends family drama with self-discovery. The film, backed by European investors, will shoot later this year in Thailand and Italy. Not bad for what Stone himself calls "one more ambitious film," is it?

A Long Time Coming

Stone has been chasing White Lies for nearly a decade, with funding obstacles keeping it on the shelf far longer than intended. Casting del Toro, with whom he last collaborated on Savages, finally helped push it forward. The story follows a man repeating his divorced parents’ mistakes, until an unlikely meeting offers a chance to change course.

Why This Matters

With classics like Platoon, Wall Street and JFK behind him, Stone’s return carries weight. His last feature, Snowden, split opinion, but White Lies feels more personal, even reflective. Four months of filming across two continents at 78 shows he’s not slowing down — could this be the comeback we’ve been waiting for?
