AC/DC's New Jersey rain check lands after the night their tour leg was supposed to end
Weather has now cost this tour one city outright and one very full stadium for a night. The New Jersey fix, though, comes with a scheduling quirk that turns a rain check into the leg's new closing night.
AC/DC were due at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Friday night. Just after 3 p.m. the show was pushed to Friday, October 2, because of the nor'easter heading up the coast. NextMosh was first with the news, and MetLife's own statement was one sentence long:
"Tonight's AC/DC show at MetLife Stadium has been rescheduled to Friday, October 2 due to incoming inclement weather."
Rain was not the issue for Friday evening. Wind was. 94.5 PST reports the call came from public safety authorities "in consultation with weather experts." Tickets carry over to the new date, and holders are getting the details by email.

A new date that comes after the last one
The fun detail is on the calendar. The North American leg of the Power Up tour was built to finish on Tuesday, September 29, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, per The Rock Revival. Moving New Jersey to October 2 means the leg now ends at MetLife, three days after what used to be the finale. Philadelphia keeps its date and loses its closing-night status.
It isn't the first time weather has rewritten this run:
- Toronto, September 16 — canceled outright after a thunderstorm left Rogers Stadium with damage serious enough that the city ordered repairs. There was no make-up date.
- East Rutherford, September 25 — moved a week, to October 2, with The Pretty Reckless still opening.
- Philadelphia, September 29 — still on, and no longer the last show of the leg.
Same storm, longer list
AC/DC are one name on a growing Friday list. Ed Sheeran's Gillette Stadium weekend, Global Citizen, All Things Go and Oceans Calling had already gone. In Brooklyn, organizers also called off the Prodigy's Friday show and Saturday's CBGB Festival, which had Morrissey, Interpol, Patti Smith and the Buzzcocks on the bill:
"The safety of our fans, the artists, and local crews is our top priority."
The difference is that AC/DC got a new date instead of a refund. For a band that just lost Toronto for good, that counts as the lucky outcome.
