Here comes the actor’s classics right from the 1990s.

Being recognized as the industry’s comedy giant, Adam Sandler brought us a number of guilty pleasure comedies that aren’t critics’ favorites at all. We bet you have seen at least one of them, like Happy Gilmore (1996), Click (2006) or Grown Ups (2010).

A 1999 cultish movie that has just been added to Netflix ’s catalog also fell victim to critics’ judgment, but, nevertheless, it is loved by the actor’s fans and is considered to be even ‘the most Sandler’ comedy ever made.

The plot of this flick revolves around Sonny (Sandler), a slacker who is unaware of how to take responsibility on his shoulders. That is why his girlfriend breaks up with him, but he finds a way to prove himself, but rather a crazy one - he adopts a 5-year-old boy.

However, his ex doesn’t seem to be impressed, while the kid is clearly non-returnable. Therefore, Sonny tries to make it through the struggles and the joys of fatherhood.

Indeed, you’ve already guessed that we’re talking about Big Daddy that was the highest-grossing Sandler movie at the time. Co-written by the actor himself, it became one of the most iconic comedies of the 1990s and made a worldwide star of its lead.

“It’s a great movie, honestly. A lot of fun and a perfect example of why Sandler is beloved by movie fans from my generation,” says Redditor @mikey_glocks.

However, critics and some viewers don’t share this opinion, and it’s proved by the film’s shameful critical score of 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s claimed to rely too much on Sandler’s comedy talent while forgetting about balancing all the controversial jokes.

“You really had to keep telling yourself "this is a Sandler comedy," because there was a little kid caught in the middle of his usual loutish shenanigans,” claims @badwolf1013.

Despite being quite silly and generic, indeed, this movie is perfect for an evening chill. Sandler is really at his peak here, and his chemistry with the kid actors - and he is played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse - is cute enough to make a must-watch of it.

Big Daddy is now available for streaming on Netflix.
