Which Role Nearly Pushed Adam Scott to Quit Acting?

Yet it taught him a lesson.
Well, Adam, you just missed one role — so were you really that fragile? Turns out, yes — or at least, it felt that way at the time. During a recent appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, Scott revealed how losing the role of David Fisher on HBO’s Six Feet Under to Michael C. Hall made him seriously consider quitting acting.
"It was the one where I was like, 'I might stop doing this. I think that it’s time for me to read the tea leaves and walk away,'" Scott admitted, reflecting on the early 2000s drama that dominated television.
Testing Alongside Michael C. Hall for Six Feet Under
Scott explained that he and Hall both tested for the part, adding, "That hurts." Yet he quickly acknowledged Hall’s performance was flawless.
"It’s good that I didn’t get it because it wouldn’t be nearly as good if I had done it," he said.
A Painful But Valuable Acting Lesson from Six Feet Under
Even though Scott missed the lead, he landed a guest role in Season 2, describing the experience as fun and calling Hall lovely. Missing out on the role of David Fisher in Six Feet Under had been a tough blow, but it offered valuable lessons.
The experience helped shape his acting career and gave him a deeper understanding of the demands of HBO’s iconic series.
