It has been planned as a limited series all along — and, honestly, should remain one.

Netflix ’s Adolescence has been going wild across the world for the past several weeks, but it seems like the show has in fact gone way too far in its chase for success.

The series, which right now boasts of a fourth position in Netflix’s top of English-language shows, has recently got another reason to be talked about, when rumours about a potential second season started circulating in the media.

This, however, might soon be proved the truth, and, however weird it might sound, Adolescence’s fans aren’t really happy about such a perspective.

Adolescence Season 2 Is Already Labeled as ‘Unnecessary’ by Fans

The news broke a couple of days ago when Deadline reported about Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment (which also helmed Adolescence) being in talks with Philip Barantini in regard to a possible second season.

However, even with the show’s creators now seeking one more similar story to talk about, the audiences hint one season was more than enough for them.

Ahead of the initial rumour’s leak, some users took to their social media to rant about how unnecessary another instalment seems even after the first one’s raving success.

“Is another season really necessary, or does it risk diluting the show's impact?” @EverPeak01 noted on X.

Others reminded everyone of the whole series’ initial idea, like @oliverblackshaw who pointed out Adolescence’s miniseries status and then said it needs to remain so “like it was intended to be”.

Season 2 Has Fans Divided Over Who Is to Blame

It’s fair to say some positive reaction to the news is currently a pretty rare finding; on top of that, Adolescence’s fans on Reddit seemingly found the one that might be guilty in all this.

“This is the Netflix poison: find a hugely successful show (often a surprise to them based on the 100s of dart throws they make to see what sticks), then irrespective of how neatly it’s tied up or how relevant it is, squeeze that show for every bit of juice it has”, PercySledge wrote in a Reddit thread.

Others, however, suggested the problem was in the show’s own incapability to go on with more seasons.

“I don’t think anything there would be as dramatic as what you got in these 4 eps. You could explore life in a young offenders institution, the court date or the family’s life after, but I think it would probably end up being diminishing returns," Redditor bfsfan101 stated.

User pablothewizard even suggested Netflix still has another way to keep Adolescence’s success going if the streamer chooses to stick to the show’s production team for more collaborations.

“Netflix should just chuck money at Jack Thorne, he's written some really good stuff”, they wrote.
