What to know about the Adventures of Cliff Booth cast: Carla Gugino's role is a secret even the first-look photos won't crack
Netflix's most expensive nostalgia trip finally showed its hand this week — and answered every question about the cast except the one people keep asking.
The Brad Pitt–David Fincher–Quentin Tarantino three-way handshake now has a full title, a trailer, and dates: officially The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, it hits IMAX on November 25 for a two-week engagement before streaming on Netflix December 23. Fincher directs a fresh Tarantino script; it's 1977, the fairy tale is over, and Pitt's Oscar-winning stuntman now works as a Hollywood fixer, wading into "murder, blackmail, theft, extortion," per the new synopsis.
Tarantino wrote it, loved it, and handed it off anyway, explaining that directing a sequel to his own movie held no mystery for him:

- Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth, now moonlighting as a bartender, a projectionist, and a solver of problems with occasionally extralegal methods.
- Elizabeth Debicki plays Karen Crosby, the talent agent whose phone call kicks the plot into gear.
- Scott Caan is Charlie Peters, a TV megastar famous for doing his own stunts — a casting wink, since Caan's late father James was actual '70s-Hollywood royalty.
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Roderick "Hot Rod" Harrison, pro football champion turned screen star.
- Timothy Olyphant is the only other returnee from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, back as TV actor James Stacy; Peter Weller joins, and Fincher regulars Holt McCallany and Barry Livingston round things out — Livingston confirming he plays a "disco kingpin."
The Gugino problem
And then there's Carla Gugino. When Deadline broke her casting in June 2025, her role was unknown. When paparazzi first-looks surfaced from the LA shoot, they showed her on a balcony in a white dress with a glass of wine — which is a mood, not a data point. Even now, with a trailer out and the synopsis public, the sum total of official information is a name and three words: Toni, Charlie's "knowing wife."
"Knowing" is doing an enormous amount of work in that sentence. In a movie about murder, blackmail, and a husband who does his own stunts, the knowing wife is never just the knowing wife.
Whatever Fincher and Tarantino are hiding there, the answer arrives on the biggest screens available: IMAX from November 25, then Netflix on December 23.
