They often work at the intersection of genres, incorporating comedy, fantasy, sci-fi or horror into the plot.
Signal Is Confirmed to Get a Season 2
For all fans of detective and sci-fi in one bottle, we don't recommend passing up Signal – a K-drama that debuted in 2016, got an almost perfect 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and will soon be getting a second season.
Recently, tvN officially confirmed that Signal will be getting a second season after almost ten years – a new chapter called The Second Signal is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2026.
Those who watched the first season can expect the return of the main cast – Kim Hye-soo, Cho Jin-woong and Lee Je-hoon. But what's even better is that the script will be written by the same screenwriter as the first season, Kim Eun-hee.
What Is Signal About?
As a child, Park Hae-young failed to save a classmate, and since then he has decided to become a police officer. He was the only witness to the kidnapping and saw the criminal, but the investigators had their own suspect.
Later, the girl was found dead, the identity of the criminal remained a mystery. 15 years have passed, the statute of limitations is about to expire, and the culprit will be invulnerable to justice.
Then fantastic circumstances intervene. Hae-young finds an old walkie-talkie that sends a signal into the past to investigator Lee Jae-han. The detective has just started to investigate the kidnapping of a girl and he needs the help of a colleague from the future.
Signal Is Based on One of the Most Shocking and Mysterious Crimes in South Korean History
Signal recreates the real-life crimes of the famous Hwaseong serial killer, who killed women between 1986 and 1991.
At the time, the police had more than 20,000 suspects. To put this madman's figure into perspective, it can be said that this case was compared to the Zodiac in terms of its significance.
Several feature films and TV series have been made about these events. Among them is Signal, which proved so poignant that it spawned remakes in Japan and China.
This intricate and gripping series, with extraordinary music and vibrant acting, immerses you in the era of the 80s and tells the touching and dramatic stories of its characters.
