Marvel’s next big movie will mark the actor’s first return to the iconic role in more than 20 years that passed since X2’s premiere back in 2003. That said, Cumming has definitely had some time to notice a major difference that the modern film production has reached in recent years.

During his latest appearance on Today With Jenna and Friends talk show, the actor revealed he had already had some makeup tests for Avengers: Doomsday’s upcoming filming, highlighting how the whole process changed compared to what it was like on X2’s set.

“Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed. It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero. I’ve had some makeup tests already for the role, but what’s great about it was that before it was about four and a half hours to apply it, but now it’s only 90 minutes”, Cumming said.

He also added that he previously had all of his characters’ numerous tattoos done by hand, so there was no way they would be applied much before the filming process itself.

“Now, they just stick onto my face. It’s a game changer. I’m going back to being a 60-year-old superhero, and everyone seems really lovely”, the actor concluded jokingly.

Avengers: Doomsday Might Have a Special Mission to Save the MCU

The Russo Brothers’ next project after a failed Netflix sci-fi film The Electric State, Avengers: Doomsday might be Marvel’s biggest hope for a potential return to better days.

The superhero studio’s more recent flicks like Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter caused its home company major money losses and, additionally, didn’t do well with critics either.

Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theatres on May 1, 2026.
