Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski separated a while ago: the marriage that started in secret ended the same way
They got engaged publicly, then married so quietly that the news arrived after the fact, and spent nine years keeping the marriage off camera. The end of it was handled the same way: they had already separated when they told anyone, and the telling came from them, not from a publicist.
Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have separated after nine years of marriage, confirming it themselves on Tuesday evening in a joint statement first given to People. The wording is short, and the tense is what matters in it.

Not "we are separating". They had already done it, some time ago, and said so in a sentence that ends on an odd, deliberate note:
"We have been separated for a while, and it's proven to be the right move for us and our family unit. We've got each other forever — and it's GOOD."
The timeline they never much discussed in public: the two met in 2015 working together, first on the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By and then on the film The Last Word. The engagement was confirmed in September 2016. The wedding happened in March 2017, in private, and their daughter Nina was born days later. Their son arrived in 2020.
Nine years almost entirely off camera
For two working actors this was an unusually unphotographed marriage. No joint reality format, no couple-brand, almost no red carpets as a pair after the first year. Seyfried moved her life to a farm on the east coast and did press about the animals more often than about the husband. Sadoski kept to theatre and television and gave interviews about the work.
A couple that never sold the marriage has nothing to take back when it ends. That is the whole reason this statement fits in three lines.

The split lands in the busiest stretch of her career since Mamma Mia!, and in the middle of an awards run:
