Anna Todd’s 'The Last Sunrise' Gets Bright New Faces — Could Velencoso & Sweetlove Spark Something Special?

With a Desperate Housewives star joining the ensemble cast.
News about book-to-film adaptations always grabs my attention, especially when it involves Anna Todd. Her upcoming Amazon MGM feature The Last Sunrise has just added two new faces: Andrés Velencoso and Chloé Sweetlove.
They join Maia Reficco, Fernando Lindez and, of course, a Desperate Housewives's Eva Longoria in what already looks like a sun-soaked drama worth watching.
A Summer in Majorca
The story, adapted from Todd’s best-seller, is set on Majorca. At its heart is Oriah 'Ry' Pera (Reficco), a 22-year-old dealing with chronic illness and a tense bond with her mother.
Her summer changes when she meets Julián (Lindez). Velencoso joins as Mateo, while Sweetlove plays fan-favourite Amara — exactly the kind of detail readers hope to see brought to life on screen.
From Page to Screen
Directed by Carlson Young from a script by Anna Klassen, the film is produced by Anna Todd, who first found fame with the After series. The Last Sunrise, published in May, feels like her next chapter — Mediterranean setting, youthful longing, emotional weight.
Why This Cast Matters
Velencoso, known for Élite, adds Spanish star power, while Sweetlove (The Crow Girl) brings fresh British energy. Paired with Eva Longoria’s familiar presence, the cast mixes new and established talent — just enough to lift this beyond another YA romance. And really, who doesn’t like a surprise when it comes to casting?
