Anyone Can Cook: How to Make the Iconic Pixar-Style Ratatouille That Impressed the Critic
Remy will be proud.
There are many cartoons that introduce a now iconic dish in one way or another, but there’s no competition for Pixar’s Ratatouille that made the eponymous vegetable stew famous across the world.
The movie about charismatic young rat Remy making his way in the culinary world prompted millions of people to try and make Ratatouille at home. Why would you be an exception?
Ingredients: 1 squash, 1 zucchini, 1 eggplant, 10 tomatoes, 3 bell peppers, 3 sprigs of thyme, 5 tbsp of vegetable oil, salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Gather all the necessary ingredients. Wash the vegetables and pat them dry with paper towels. Get your blender, baking sheet, and aluminum foil ready. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Prepare the tomato sauce. Remove the stem, seeds, and inner membranes from the bell pepper, then dice it. Chop 3 tomatoes in the same way. Place the vegetables in a skillet, add 2 tbsp. of oil, season with salt and pepper, turn the heat to low, and cook for 3–4 minutes. Then place in a blender and blend until smooth.
Slice the vegetables. Cut the zucchini, squash, 7 tomatoes, and eggplant into rounds of approximately the same thickness, about 2–3 mm.
Assemble and cook the ratatouille. Pour the tomato sauce into the bottom of the baking dish, then arrange the vegetables on top. Try to arrange them in alternating colors. Place the thyme sprigs on top of the vegetables, drizzle with the remaining oil, and season lightly with pepper. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the oven for 30–35 minutes.
Divide the ratatouille among serving plates and drizzle with tomato sauce.
